Head of Consent

Reporting to the Commercial Operations & Technology Director

Working within Commercial Operations & Technology

Your role: 
As Head of Consent, you will define and deliver a forward-thinking consent strategy, that encompasses compliance requirements and maps them to actionable initiatives that can be delivered across our brands. This role requires an exceptional collaborator who has a passion for Adtech & data privacy, and the ability to create and deliver a consent management strategy to support & build the News UK digital business.


Key Responsibilities of the role:

  • Coordinate and manage consent-related projects, ensuring that CMP architecture & configurations are optimised and strategic projects are effectively delivered.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business (Data Protection, Product, Data Technology, Commercial Data, Adtech & Data Governance) to develop and implement compliance processes, and leverage privacy-enhancing tools and long-term strategies for user consent management.

  • Develop strategies to ensure News UK complies with its legal and regulatory obligations, regarding user consent; whilst still developing initiatives that create commercial advantage.

  • Working with Data Governance, Technology and Data Protection, ensure all partners and vendors adhere to data privacy requirements & correct consent signalling. 

  • Day-to-day management & ownership of the CMP relationship.

  • Ensures cookie and tag governance policies, programs, and processes are consistently implemented and honoured across the organisation.

  • Represent News UK privacy compliance to commercial partners, agencies, customers and wider industry groups.

  • Work closely with the Group Data Protection Officer, to ensure compliance requirements relating to user consent are implemented promptly.

  • Assist with the management of user and regulatory complaints relating to the CMP.

  • Work with Technology teams to ensure that downstream uses of user personal data by technology and marketing teams are compliant.   


What we are looking for from you:

  • 3+ years experience within digital publishing, Adtech or an associated business, involving collaboration with senior stakeholders from various business functions.

  • Experience in technology engineering would be beneficial.

  • Good knowledge of data protection law, including; the EU ePrivacy Directive, UK PEC Regulations, and UK/EU GDPR. 

  • Good understanding of US data protection rules, relating to user consent, including CCPA. 

  • A solid understanding of the impact of new user ID technologies and competitive privacy-related activities to ensure a progressive consent strategy is envisioned, communicated and delivered.

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering technology projects and managing ongoing relationships with third-party vendors and their platforms.

  • Proven ability to set strategic objectives and sell those to senior management. 

  • Understanding of technical aspects of CMP implementation.
