Compensation Details:
- HR Generalist 17 : Salaries typically range from $83,037 to $110,717 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.
- HR Generalist 18 : Salaries typically range from $94,664 to $126,219 annually, based on qualifications and experiences.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
- This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver.

Team Overview:
As part of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility team within the People and Culture Group, the Digital Accessibility Advisor will play a pivotal role in ensuring that EDC’s digital platforms are accessible to all users. This role involves evaluating digital assets for compliance with accessibility standards, promoting inclusive design principles, and providing technical expertise to project teams to enhance accessibility knowledge across the organization. The successful candidate will work in a matrix environment liaising with colleagues in the marketing, technology and human resources teams. This position will be instrumental in making EDC’s digital offerings more inclusive and accessible.
What you will be doing:
As the Digital Accessibility Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring that EDC’s digital platforms are inclusive and accessible to all users, adhering to international standards and best practices.
Your role will involve the following:
- Support the development of an accessibility strategy and provide direction for digital initiatives, ensuring alignment with EDC’s enterprise digital standards, customer experience vision, and government accessibility mandates.
- Define accessibility milestones in product roadmaps and program plans; champion a shift-left accessibility approach across the organization.
- Contribute to the development of and document accessibility standards and policies collaboratively, to drive digital adoption across all products and services.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, engineers, designers, product managers to support digital product development, providing resources and acting as a sounding board.
- Mentor, coach and guide cross-functional teams to help in the creation, development and procurement of more accessible products.
- Perform accessibility evaluations for potential third-party digital tools and platforms under consideration for purchase and deployment.
- Collaborate with vendors to implement accessibility features in web applications and software.
- Produce remediation recommendations and code-level examples for development teams and product owners.
- Support the development of and evolve accessibility testing processes, methodologies, tools, and criteria, ensuring thorough and effective testing.
- Serve as an accessibility technical Subject Matter Expert (SME), monitoring industry trends and fostering awareness of best practices.
- Drive contributions to ongoing accessibility standards and requirements, incorporating insights from other communities of practice.
- Collaborate with product owners, solution architects, and designers to embed accessibility early in the software development lifecycle.
What we are looking for:
- Minimum 5-7 years of practical digital accessibility experience.
- Completed undergraduate degree in a relevant field.
- Strong understanding of disability-related issues in digital accessibility, and of accessibility standards including WCAG 2.2, semantic HTML, proper use of ARIA, and related web standards.
- Demonstrated experience in guiding enterprise teams to plan, build, and deliver accessible solutions across web and mobile. Knowledge of inclusive design principles.
- Deep understanding of front-end technologies and their accessibility constraints for mobile and responsive web applications.
- Effective relationship-building and influencing skills with the ability to drive consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively convey complex digital inclusivity concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable managing shifting priorities, and tight deadlines. Ability to work independently.
- Adapt professionally to change and supports others through transitions.
