Team Overview:
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team fosters risk-informed decision-making to enable EDC to achieve its strategy. It accomplishes this by providing tools and expertise to uncover, understand, assess and help resolve operational and enterprise-level risks. ERM's functional areas of responsibility include (among other areas) setting requirements and overseeing governance for policy management, risk appetite, Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) and new initiatives (i.e., NIRAs) as well as overseeing EDC's operational risk management program.
The ERM team is seeking a Senior Advisor to contribute to its enterprise risk management function. The role will involve uncovering, understanding, assessing and reporting on operational and strategic risks across the corporation. To accomplish this, the successful candidate will build relationships with subject matter experts across EDC and engage in transparent timely discussions aimed at uncovering and managing risk events as they arise. The Senior Advisor will employ risk assessment and interview techniques that create safe spaces while probing and challenging the risk assessments and action plans put forth by risk managers. The Senior Advisor will supplement perspectives from risk managers with information from other sources such as operational loss reporting, management committees, independent research and industry peers.
The Senior Advisor will have a key role in producing the quarterly Integrated Risk Report (“IRR”), a comprehensive overview of how well EDC is managing its enterprise-level risks. The audience for the IRR is the Board and the Executive. The successful candidate will contribute to the Executive and Board’s understanding of risks and opportunities to achieve EDC’s objectives and will have opportunities for visibility at the senior leadership level. To produce this report, the Senior Advisor must develop a sound understanding of the risks and risk metrics for all facets of EDC's business.
The position may also involve other responsibilities as needed.
The successful candidate will report to the Manager, ERM.
What you will be doing:
The Senior Advisor’s chief responsibilities will be to:
- Build and nurture a network of risk SMEs and risk management partners across EDC as well as externally to EDC.
- Quantify risks by developing metrics where appropriate, in collaboration with internal partners.
- Critically review and challenge (where warranted) enterprise risk assessments provided by functional leaders across EDC to develop a reliable and substantiated corporate risk profile. Identify dependencies and impacts between risks and also factor in macroeconomic considerations. Play a lead role in producing EDC's quarterly Integrated Risk Report (“IRR”).
- Raise risks and control weaknesses as identified throughout the year.
- Assist the team of ERM professionals from time to time in a range of risk functions, including oversight for RCSAs and NIRAs and monitoring risk appetite.
Key Competencies
- Relationship- and network-building with risk managers and partners across the corporation and externally to help detect, understand and assess risks and emerging risks.
- Effective collaboration and organizational skills to produce deliverables within a small team.
- Effective communication, particularly the distillation of complex information into clear and concise messaging suitable for an executive audience.
- Awareness of the macroeconomic and geopolitical environment in which EDC operates and an ability to identify how this impacts EDC's risk profile.
- Ability to instill trust by consistently demonstrating highly credible risk management and business expertise.
- A curious nature.
- Adaptable to shifting requirements and tight timelines.
- An innovative and continuous improvement mindset.
- Ability to drive quality production of Management and Board deliverables.
What we are looking for:
- University Degree in Business Administration or Risk Management or related
- Advanced knowledge of risk management principles, tools, techniques and practices
- Excellent written communication skills; ability to write clearly and concisely for maximum impact. Experience in data visualization.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills
- Minimum 7 years of experience in risk assessment, risk management or related experience
