The opportunity

The US Natural Gas Pipeline General Plant Maintenance Capital (GPMC) Facilities Projects Engineering Execution team has a career opportunity available for an experienced and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer.

Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for providing electrical engineering analysis and support to the US Natural Gas Pipeline sustainability and natural gas maintenance projects, and their stakeholders. The electrical engineer will review electrical power system and equipment drawings, evaluate contractor electrical design packages, interface with contracted Engineering design firms, and create or review guidance documentation, standards, specifications, processes, procedures or tools used for the execution of Engineering Work.

Relevant experience with compression and measurement facilities station power distribution systems, NEC adherence, motor control centers (MCC), automatic transfer switches (ATS), main breakers, power factor correction capacitors (PFCC), conduit & cable tray evaluation and design, auxiliary power unit (APU) generators, hazardous area classification, grounding, arc flash studies, lighting, transformers and control panels (SCP, ESD & UCP) is highly desirable. Additional knowledge on Remote Terminal Units (RTU), Gas Chromatographs (GC), Gas Analyzers, variable frequency drives, motors and utility interface is beneficial.

What you'll do

Follow and ensure compliance with TC Energy's Practice of Engineering (POE) in all assigned work

Act in the best interest of TC Energy by interacting with internal technical groups and external engineering firms to evaluate and approve electrical design packages

Provide innovative engineering solutions to solve emergent technical issues

Responsible for the engineering work associated to maintenance projects in natural gas facilities, i.e. compressor stations, meter stations, storage fields, etc. with special focus on power, instrumentation and automation equipment

Gather maintenance project ideas technical data in early stages of development to determine the best engineering approach for their implementation

Schedule internal and third-party engineering resources to support assigned projects

Compile data associated to bidding documentation for the selection of third-party engineering firms, including the definition of the Engineering Deliverables tied to varied project types

Review third party engineering bid documents and proposals for contract awarding

Manage project specific engineering contracts including periodic interface and oversight of hired Engineering Service Providers (ESPs)

Schedule design reviews, ensure proper stakeholder engagement during the design process and establish direction for the project overall design product

Participate in project design and HAZOP reviews

Verify facility load list calculations, as well as perform and/or review arc flash, relay coordination, and load studies

Identify equipment design requirements and review equipment layouts and installation

Review station's ancillary systems performance to ensure operational reliability

Review of third-party engineering firm design calculations, equipment vendor drawings, and material lists

Sizing verification and purchase specification for motor control centers, auxiliary power unit (APU) generators, transfer switches, variable frequency drives, cables, PCR buildings, switchgear, distribution panels, transformers, and other ancillary equipment

Trigger material procurement process for all items to be purchased by the Company

Review project requisitions against company standards and specifications as applicable to project scope

Perform quality assurance of construction drawings for the installation of subject electrical systems

Provide technical support throughout construction activities, including site visits and timely RFI Reponses

Analyze and troubleshoot equipment during commissioning

Coordinate efforts tied to project close out from an engineering perspective, i.e. redline review, as-building, equipment data gathering for the preventive maintenance system, etc.

Participate in Root Cause Analyses, identify causal factors, and propose remedial actions

Solicit internal/external expertise for items outside of core technical capabilities

Log process-related and technical items identified with room for improvement

Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution, or equivalent degree with relevant experience

4-6 or more of relevant progressive experience

Experience with engineering and project management software applications such as SAP, MicroSoft, Easypower and ETAP

Experience with applicable industry codes and standards, especially NFPA 70 (NEC)

Willingness to travel for work assignments as required

Preferred Qualifications

Electrical discipline design experience within the energy infrastructure industry

Professional Engineering (PE) license

Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective business relationships to reach company objectives

Demonstrated ability to initiate change and help others adapt to a continuously changing work environment

Knowledge of electrical equipment installation testing methods and recommendations

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Ability to apply engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements, and implement solutions

Self-motivated and results-driven

Strong leadership skills with an aptitude for team building

Excellent time management skills

Preference will be given to candidates with a technical aptitude combined with the ability to effectively prioritize conflicting tasks within a team environment
