THE WORK:
- You'll prepare detailed cost estimates for all phases of data center construction, including civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems, ensuring alignment with the owner’s objectives.
- You'll review and analyze project documentation, including drawings and specifications, to determine the full scope of work and associated costs. Perform precise quantity takeoffs for labor, materials, equipment, overhead and contingency ensuring alignment with the complete project scope.
- You'll conduct market research to evaluate current pricing trends, supplier availability, and labor conditions to support accurate cost assumptions. Review and analyze subcontractor and supplier bids to validate scope, pricing, and compliance with project specifications. Collaborate with procurement teams to validate vendor quotes and ensure competitiveness.
- You'll provide owners with insights into material and labor cost fluctuations. Support the owner in preparing comprehensive bid packages, ensuring all project requirements are met.
- You'll advise on value engineering opportunities to optimize costs without compromising quality or performance.
- You'll conduct cost variance analyses and provide actionable recommendations to improve estimation accuracy for future projects.
- You'll participate in design reviews, pre-bid meetings, and value engineering sessions to refine project budgets and scopes. Liaise with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure estimates align with the owner’s project goals and financial constraints.
- You'll identify potential cost risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate uncertainties related to pricing, scheduling, and market conditions. Integrate risk analysis into cost estimates to ensure realistic and achievable project budgets.
- You'll prepare detailed cost estimate reports and presentations for owner stakeholders, highlighting key cost drivers and assumptions.
- You'll develop cost models and benchmarks tailored to owner-specific requirements and historical data. Build and maintain a database of cost benchmarks and historical data specific to data center construction. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of all assumptions, calculations, and revisions to facilitate audits and future reference.
- Onsite at client site: The work location for this role is onsite with our clients and partners to enable delivery and cultivate our client relationships.
- With all our roles, there is some in-person time for collaboration, learning and building relationships with clients, peers, leaders and communities. As an employer, we will be as flexible as possible to support your specific work/life needs.
$90,000 - $155,000 a year
HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related field, OR equivalent relevant experience
- 8+ years of experience in cost estimation, preferably in data center or mission-critical construction projects
BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE:
- In-depth understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing (MEP) systems and their cost implications
- Proficiency in cost estimation software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, labor requirements, and industry standards
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with experience preparing detailed reports and presenting to owner stakeholders
- Familiarity with industry standards such as AACE, RICS, or similar frameworks is preferred
