Principal Investigator, Ueli Rutishauser, PhD invites you to consider this Postdoctoral Scientist opportunity to join his dynamic team!
Under the guidance and mentorship of Dr. Ueli Rutishauser in the Department of Neurosurgery and the Center for Neural Science and Medicine, and working closely with other postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, undergraduate students, research associates, and collaborators, the Postdoctoral Scientist will be engaged in ground breaking research with the goal of developing a mechanistic understanding of human cognition. The incumbent will participate in systems neuroscience research throughout the training period by using intracranial recordings in humans and advanced computational and analysis methods to study the mechanisms of learning, memory, and decision-making. The postdoctoral scholar will participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author and may assist in the preparation of grant proposals. This NIH and NSF funded position is an outstanding opportunity to acquire training in a ground breaking research program. This position is not responsible for generating grant funds. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Keeps appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyzes the results with the Principal Investigator.
- May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
- Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period.
- Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.
- May design and perform experiments.
- Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
Department-Specific Duties:
- Designs and performs human intracranial electrophysiology experiments.
- Designs, implements, and uses computational techniques to process and analyze electrophysiological and behavioral data.
- Applies a programming language (MATLAB and Python) to implement analysis procedures and to analyze and interpret the results.
- Uses, develops, and extends complex data analysis programs to develop biological insights from complex electrophysiological datasets.
- Designs, implements, and continuously improves behavioral experiments using MATLAB.
- Interacts respectfully and efficiently with patients, caregivers, and hospital clinical staff.
Qualifications
Education:
- Doctorate degree (PhD) in Neuroscience or related field, required.
Experience:
- Works independently on research projects designed together with the mentor (Dr. Ueli Rutishauser) within area of specialization.
- Acquires thorough technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to four (1-4) year post-doctoral appointment.
- Strong computational, programming (MATLAB and Python), data analysis, statistics, and electrophysiology skills are crucial.
- Knowledge of the cognitive neuroscience literature is essential.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills are required.
- Previous experience with human scalp or intracranial EEG or animal intracranial electrophysiology is preferred.
- Proven ability to conduct high-quality research evidenced by first author publications.
Physical Requirements:
Position requires working with electrophysiology equipment and computers for extended periods of time and the use of specialized laboratory equipment. Must be able to sit, stand, and/or stoop for long periods of time. Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
