Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Treatment of athletes of all ages, ability and sports. Prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of physical injuries as well as addressing emotional and mental aspects of injuries. Skilled in treatment of sprains, strains, contusions and fractures. Measure, examine, analyze and/or provide instruction to determine or evaluate the components of physical fitness to healthy and/or (ill health) diseased individuals. To assist in improving the components of physical fitness and promoting the prevention of disease and disability. Establish communications with athletic director, school employees, coaches, parents and medical professionals.  Assists with the development and organization of individual and group rehabilitation programs. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for coordinating all on-site sports medicine coverage, taping, pre-season and post season physical screenings, injury clinics, training room management and budgeting of training supplies.  Responsible for being knowledgeable of standard of practice for the practice of Athletic Training in a school and outpatient rehabilitation setting and regulations established by the payers.

Demonstrates critical thinking to assure the delivery of safe, quality care to adolescents, adult and geriatric clients.  Responsible for excelling in courteous and respectful customer service at all times to every customer. Assures the safety of all customers. Effectively communicates with all customers. Effectively communicates & collaborates with other healthcare team members and between intra/inter departments, adheres to organizational policy and procedures, abides by regulatory/accrediting body requirements and professional practice standards. Assists with the daily operations and collecting statistics within the medical fitness center. Responsible for completing in a timely manner, all assigned tasks and duties utilizing multi-tasking skills.  Responsible for assuring confidentiality of customer information and departmental information.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of accredited program for Athletic Trainers, Bachelors of Athletic Training or equivalent degree required.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer required
  • Ability to work variable hours.
  • Current CPR certificate required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of the Athletic Training services current trends, roles and scope of practice and standard of care in a school, healthcare and medical fitness setting.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using the instrumentation / equipment for patients such as but not limited; to multiple exercise equipment for strengthening and aerobic conditioning, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, free weights, bands and balls, BMI instrumentation, weight scale and medical rehabilitation equipment and supplies and taping.
  • Demonstration of general knowledge of the principles and practices of appropriate positive customer service in a school and rehabilitation setting in a healthcare setting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all customers. 
  • Demonstration of proper phone etiquette
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication, presenting facts and recommendations,
  • Demonstrates effective problem solving, decision making, interpersonal and team work skills.
  • Demonstrates proficient time management and organizational skills and ability to perform multiple tasks throughout the workday.

  • Ability to assist with managing costs to respond to changing financial requirements.

  • Athletic Taping, exercise equipment for strengthening and aerobic conditioning

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Covers all school sanctioned athletic practices and competitions as directed by the athletic director to properly care for the athletes including taping, injury assessments and treatment.
  • Consults with proper healthcare team members about the care of the athletes.
  • Completes/ obtains Health history questionnaires and assessment of the injuries associated with athletes, musculoskeletal system and/or cardio respiratory system using exercise equipment, exercise test protocols, exercise programs, and risk factor modification and/or measurements.
  • Evaluate/re-evaluates client’s response to exercise, progress, and expected outcomes.
  • Provides athletes teaching and support regarding injuries, concussion management, exercise fitness, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc.
  • Provides athletes and parents/ guardian’s with relevant health care education and instruction regarding procedures and goals.
  • Develops exercise and rehabilitation plans of care.
  • Maintains client’s records, accurately documents aspects of care.
  • Uses professional knowledge to develop fitness and rehabilitation programs according to department guidelines and criteria. 
  • Assist school officials with tasks that improves the safety and well-being of all athletes.
  • Communicates effectively with payers. Assist HIM and Business Office with assuring billing requests from payers are complete and accurate, which includes meeting medical necessity and correct medical diagnoses.
  • Input data to record athlete’s functional outcomes in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assist with implementation of injury clinics, sports physicals, pre-season functional movement screenings, concussion management, and ImPact Testing.
  • Assist with establishing policies and procedures, facility organization, and risk management for the facility and staff associated with Athletic Training.
  • Inquire and document all injuries to ensure the safety of the athlete. Compose a program in accordance with Athletic Training standards regarding such injuries and assure athlete understands the program.

  • Utilizes measures to promote and maintain all customer’s personnel safety.
  • Maintains patient, fitness clients, employee, physician, and organization confidentiality, respects the rights, privacy and property of others. 
  • Assures that patient and fitness client’s information is maintained in confidential manner and complies with HIPPA regulations.
  • Communicates effectively with all entities that are integrated with the medical fitness center.
  • Answers telephone and returns voice mail messages daily.
  • Effective and timely communication with inter and intra departments and all other customers.
  • Timely communication with department leadership regarding departmental or customer issues and assists as appropriate.
  • Interacts with all customers, including co-workers in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Assists staff with conflict resolution by providing guidance and support.
  • Assists director with problem solving operational issues.
  • Participates in identification, development, and follow through of continuous quality improvement measures.
  • Demonstrates ability to multi-task and prioritize work maintaining accuracy of work within established times frames.
  • Collection of data in order to assist director with strategic planning of department as well as the daily flow and growth of operations.
  • Assists with control of costs through the judicious use of human and material resources.
