Senior Scientist Antibody Engineering, Biotherapeutics

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Senior Scientist to join the Biotherapeutics Discovery department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. The position offers an exciting opportunity to engage in the discovery and molecular engineering of Biotherapeutics for unmet medical needs. You will be an integral member of the Engineering group where you will contribute to the development of therapeutic molecules and to the foundational strategy of antibody engineering. You will be expected to help drive a culture of excellence through successful project outcomes, advancement of scientific understanding, empowerment of staff and increased connection with the field through an external publication record and collaborative interactions within the industry.

Duties & Responsibilities

Technical:
•    Contribute to discovery pipeline through identification, evaluation and testing of in-silico methods, especially emerging ML techniques. Customization and application of emerging ML and AI techniques to drive therapeutic discovery, especially as it relates to novel and challenging modalities. 
•    Be familiar with laboratory techniques needed to enable HT antibody engineering including expression, purification, and basic biophysical characterization. Must possess basic laboratory skills with desire to contribute to experimental outcomes.  
•    Demonstrate clear understanding of research team goals and work effectively toward achieving them; be able to participate as co-leader or representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals.
 

Leadership: 
•    Create a culture of excellence through continual process improvement, scientific curiosity and empowerment; develop and maintain outside visibility.
•    Demonstrate independent thinking, e.g. by proposing and implementing new experimental designs and concepts that contribute to research goals and reflect expert knowledge; identify potential patentable inventions
 

Administrative and Compliance:
•    Comply with all applicable regulations; ensures that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies
•    Prepare clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations; independently communicate results in the form of reports and or presentations; present responsibly and defend own work at scientific meetings; deliver project updates to senior level management
•    Contribute to departmental administration; demonstrate fiscal responsibility with respect to cost of experiments, technology, external collaborations, and travel

Requirements

•    Requires a PhD or equivalent industry experience in protein engineering, machine learning or related field. 
•    Requires in-silico/computational skills including fluency in python, experience with scikit learn pytorch, or similar ML package implementations. Experience with Jira/ Bitbucket and version control best practices considered a plus.
•    Requires basic laboratory knowledge and foundational experimental (wet-lab) skills. 
•    Requires advanced knowledge of protein engineering principles and antibody drug modalities. 
•    Requires detailed understanding of laboratory techniques and assays used to quantify, characterize and evaluate protein therapeutics. 
•    Requires project management ability and excellent written and oral presentation skills.

Eligibility Requirements:

•    Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
•    Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required)
•    Must be 18 years of age or older

Compensation Data

This position offers a base salary typically between $140,000 and $222,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance-based bonus and or other compensation elements.  For an overview of our benefits please click here.
