Job Title Bookstore Sales Assistant - West Burlington Campus
Job Description
The Bookstore Sales Assistant will perform general sales clerk and clerical duties associated with the operation of the West Burlington Campus Bookstore.  This is a full-time position with a starting hourly wage of $13.90. Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid vacation, paid holiday and spring breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

Terms of employment are per bargaining agreement between SCC Board of Trustees and the SCCESA, employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees. Upholds college policies and procedures and supports and participates in college-wide initiatives. Actively promotes a positive image for the college district. Supports SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.
Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with sales, services, uniforms, locating books, cap and gowns,
  • Answer telephone, direct calls, return calls, and make calls associated with various assignments respective to the bookstore in a professional manner.
  • Take inventory of books, tools, and supplies and returning merchandise as directed.
  •  Assist in daily opening and closing of the bookstore.      
  • Handle routine bookstore functions, fill out institutional forms,
  • Phone orders into vendors, receive orders, invoicing, and displaying. 

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Knowledge of retail mathematical functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing). 
  • Knowledge of computer software applications, specifically Microsoft Office programs.

Ability to:
  •  Successfully operate the calculator, cash register, photocopier, and the internet.
  • Effectively, cooperatively, and cordially work with people in various situations. 
  • Work well under pressure and to effectively manage time and responsibilities in spite of regular interruptions. 
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and have the temperament to handle varied, changing, and stressful situations.
  • Work independently and must demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.
  • Learn interstate shipping/carrier regulations and requirements, and bookstore point of sale software. 


Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Associate degree is preferred.
 
Experience:
Two years retail experience preferred.  
Physical Demands
Ability to routinely lift 50 – 70 pounds.
