This is a full-time Genetic Counselor for the Department of Neurology at the UF Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases to provide both clinical and research genetic counseling in adult neurodegenerative disease. The UF Health Neuromedicine – Fixel Institute clinic is a rapidly expanding clinic providing care for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and neuromuscular disorders, dementias, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and multiple sclerosis (MS)/neuroimmunology. The institute provides comprehensive multidisciplinary care to patients under one roof including neurologists, neurosurgery, psychiatry, neuropsychology, rehab (PT/OT, speech), dieticians, and social work, as well as multiple research opportunities (both clinical and basic/translational). This part-time position (20-24 hours/week) is for a BS/BA-level research assistant to recruit participants for research funded by an NIH/NIAAA grant titled Digital Motivational Behavioral Economic Intervention to Reduce Risky Drinking Among Community-Dwelling Emerging Adults (J. Tucker, PI). Using a sample of emerging adults recruited from disadvantaged communities, this randomized controlled trial will evaluate a behavioral economic intervention aimed at increasing future orientation and engagement in pro-social alternatives to drinking and will be delivered using a peer driven sampling method and web-based platform well suited for accessing emerging adult social networks. The primary responsibility involves community recruitment of participants in North and Central Florida venues frequented by the target sample and documenting venue selection and sample recruitment locations and outcomes.
