Job: Motor Vehicle Mechanic 

SCA Occup: 05190Motor Vehicle Mechanic

Salary Grade:  Federal Wage Determination or Collective Bargaining Agreement

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY:   

Under general supervision, the Motor Vehicle Mechanic repairs, rebuilds, or overhauls major assemblies of internal combustion automobiles, buses, trucks, or tractors. May also be required to diagnose, repair, and maintain fractional-horsepower engines. This position requires well rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
 

 

TYPICAL DUTIES:  

1. *Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required.
2. *Repairs gasoline and diesel engines used to power lawnmowers, garden tractors, weed whackers, chainsaws, blowers, chippers, edgers, snow removal equipment and similar tools/equipment.
3. *Uses hand tools, locates causes of trouble, dismantles engines, and inspects/examines parts for defects.
4. *Replaces or repairs worn or broken parts, such as piston rings and bearings, thermostats, electrical wiring, or other engine parts.
5. * Grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions.
6. * Repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.
7. * Rotates, repairs, and replaces tires.
8. * Drains, flushes, and replaces engine transmission, and differential grease and oils. Checks, cleans, calibrates, and replaces spark plugs.
9. * Cleans and replaces oil and air filters.
10. * Adjust brakes, replaces windshield wipers, and similar minor parts.
11. * Maintain tools and equipment, and clean work areas.
12. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

•Formal apprenticeship or equivalent training/experience
•Minimum experience required 1-3 years.
•Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
•Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to respond to questions from vendors, customers and management
•Comply with PRIDE’s safety program and adhere to proper safety practices

 

 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

High School Diploma or GED

 

 

CERTIFICATES REQUIRED:  

The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

Valid Driver's License

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

 
•Maneuvering in and around equipment
•Bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, crawling
•Pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds
•May be required to climb ladders and/or step stools

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
