Position Summary Information

General Summary
This is a non-merit system, employment-at-will, long-term contract position.

This position cannot be performed 100% remotely. Some onsite work is required.

The Sr. Systems Engineer – WebSphere/WebLogic is responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of WSSC Water portal services. Also participates in the ongoing migration of generic applications to web-enabled portal services and new releases under systems operations.
Essential Functions
  • Administers, customizes, and supports complex IBM WebSphere Portal and Application Server infrastructure hosting J2EE/SOA applications

  • Administers, customizes, and supports complex Oracle WebLogic Server infrastructure hosting J2EE/SOA applications

  • Implements application server clustering; applies application server patches, fix packs, and service packs

  • Conducts performance tuning (JVM tunning); configures and updates SSL certificates, data sources, and JDBC connection pool

  • Implements complex infrastructure with interfaces to back-end systems using WebSphere MQ & mainframe (HATS) through various mechanisms

  • Manages all aspects of a multi-platform application environment including day-to-day support, database and systems administration, and general troubleshooting

  • Deploys J2EE business applications into production

  • Supports the installation and customization of business applications and systems

  • Supports the cross-platform connectivity of WebSphere, Oracle, and applications that are based on these products across OS/390, CICS, Win2K3, OS/2, via CTCA, TCP/IP, and SNA

  • Configures and integrates WebSphere and WebLogic using J2EE technology – JDBC, JMS, JNDI, RMI, and mainframe

  • Writes shell scripts to handle complex automation/administration using shell scripting languages

  • Sets up system tools monitoring thread usage, connection pool usage, CPU usage, memory usage, etc.

  • Works closely with developers, DBAs, and vendors to troubleshoot application issues

  • Knowledge of web services dealing with a mainframe

  • Knowledge of LDAP

  • Ability to provide excellent administration and support services in a multi-platform application environment

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees with varied technical knowledge and experience across the organization
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years web services support experience that includes the following:
  • IBM WebSphere Application Server and portal administration HCL digital experience administration
  • Oracle WebLogic (WLS, WLI), OBIEE, iPlanet Web Server, Sun One Web Servers & Apache Web Server administration
  • Single Sign-On (SSO) solutions
  • Java/portal applications deployment on the server
  • RedHat Linux and Windows OS
  • Shell scripting and Perl/Python scripting
  • Performance monitoring and tuning
  • Clustered environment
  • Load balancers

OR

High school diploma (or equivalent) and 9+ years web services support experience
that includes the following:
  • IBM WebSphere Application Server and portal administration HCL digital experience administration
  • Oracle WebLogic (WLS, WLI), OBIEE, iPlanet Web Server, Sun One Web Servers & Apache web server administration
  • Single sign-on (SSO) solutions
  • Java/portal applications deployment on the server
  • RedHat Linux and Windows OS
  • Shell scripting and Perl/Python scripting
  • Performance monitoring and tuning
  • Clustered environment
  • Load balancers
