JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: Every day, in ways both big and
small, the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is impacting lives for the
better. MCW \... changemaking for a healthier Wisconsin. In the role of
Bioinformatics Analyst I you will beworking in Pharmacology and
Toxicology. Under general supervision, assists in the development,
maintenance and testing of genomic and transcriptomic data to uncover
the etiology of cancer. Responsibilities: With guidance from the lab PI,
perform high-quality bioinformatics analysis of large-scale,
high-throughput RNA and DNA sequencing data to identify changes in gene
expression, map protein-DNA binding sites (ChIP-seq), and identify
mutations and gene copy number alterations associated with the phenotype
under study (such as drug resistance in cancer cells). Perform spatial
transcriptomics analysis of human tumor specimens and bioinformatically
analyze data to measure changes in cell type abundance and gene
expression, and identify patterns of expression across large sets of
genes. Develop novel bioinformatics analysis tools/methods and coding
strategies for visualization and interpretation of large datasets.
Perform lab research procedures requiring experience in several areas of
lab investigation, including molecular studies (protein, RNA, DNA) in
tissue culture systems, mouse models (including surgery and drug
treatment), and human tissue specimens. Use an electronic lab notebook
to maintain accurate and timely records of test methods and results,
providing information for evaluation and recommendations related to the
direction of the research. Analyze data using statistical methods and
produce graphic results. Work with the lab PI to interpret data and plan
follow-up experiments. Prepare analyzed data in a format suitable for
dissemination and publication. Contribute to the writing of manuscripts
for publication. Participate in meetings with the lab PI and lab members
to evaluate and interpret the validity of data, determine methodologies,
and evaluate lab procedures impacting the quality and timeliness of
research. Knowledge - Skills - Abilities Excellent oral and written
communication skills are essential. Strong critical thinking, problem
solving and attentiveness to detail are required. Knowledge of
scientific approach and methodologies. Ability to develop and follow
research methodology and protocol. Knowledge of current technological
developments/trends in areas of expertise. Ability to read, understand,
