JOB TITLE: Asst. Safety Manager - Grounds
Bargaining Unit Status: Non-Bargaining Unit
FULL-TIME ? , OR PART-TIME ? (40 hours per week; M-F 6:30 AM-3:30 PM with occasional Saturday)
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma. (Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety or related field preferred)
EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 years’ experience in a rehabilitation, non-profit facility or comparable setting in the area(s) of operations, quality or safety.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and general computer operation is required.
- Working knowledge of grounds maintenance operations, practices and equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of disability management and awareness.
- Knowledge of OSHA and Workplace Safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Ability One federal law.
- Additional Preferred Qualifications: Completion of Basic Crew Lead and Supervisor Course or equivalent thru SourceAmerica Online Academy.
- Safety Professional/Specialist Certification or equivalent certification preferred.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be authorized for coverage under agency insurance if operating agency vehicle, have good driving record, valid Alabama driver’s license, and/or required level of personal auto insurance.
- Must achieve/maintain Safety Professional/Specialist or equivalent Certification within 12 months of assuming position.
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete a background check, per company requirements.
- Ability to communicate with tact and maintain confidentiality.
- Adequate ability in communicating in spoken conversation - adequate volume speech.
- Adequate ability in writing/reading/mathematics.
- Ability to effectively build and maintain positive working relationships with management and peers.
- Strong organizational, project planning, and management experience with proven analytical and multi-tasking skills.
- Superior listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in general reporting and basic case file management.
- Eligible to be approved to operate a Phoenix vehicle
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Safety Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with regular safety meetings/training sessions to promote workplace safety education and trend analysis.
- Assist with insuring all employees receive proper initial safety training upon hiring/call-back and refresher training annually (includes general safety and equipment specific.)
- Assist with the enforcement of all safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with completing accident reports and all associated documentation within specified timelines. Maintain all applicable files for specified timeframe.
- Assist with Filing workers compensation claims and follow up as needed with insurance company.
- Assist with seeing that proper treatment is provided for any injuries, e.g. first aid, OH clinic, 911/medical professionals.
- Assist with Maintaining Haz-Mat inventory and SDS book.
- Assist with providing contractually required reports to the customer point of contact (see applicable contract documents for list of deliverables.)
- Maintain open lines of communication with customer safety and environmental personnel.
- Assist with the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.
- Assist with maintaining records for OSHA 300 and 300A.
- Ensure compliance with all Phoenix and customer safety policies and procedures.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THIS POSITION MAY INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
- Implement, promote, and enforce the Phoenix Safety Program for Grounds Maintenance Operations on the Redstone Arsenal.
- Maintain all records and documentation for Phoenix, OSHA, Workers Comp, Redstone Garrison, etc.
- Administration of the safety plan so that a safe workplace is maintained for all employees.
- Complete and accurate safety-related documentation and record keeping

RATE OF PAY: $55,000 PER YEAR
**This is a 120-day temporary promotion with the option to to permanent with no further competition.**
