Job Purpose

The Advanced Engineer, Embedded Controls supports development and testing of generator systems, working as part of Hyliion's KARNO technology team. This position will work with hardware and software engineers to deliver embedded controls solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities


Design and integration of embedded systems software and hardware for controlling generator technologies
Work in a lab environment with hands-on systems integration support
Test and evaluation of new embedded control system features and functions
Working with host PC interfaces for logging, viewing, analyzing, and summarizing data from embedded targets
Participate in daily stand-ups and other team meetings

Qualifications include:


Education, Experience and Certifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
Master's degree focused on control/embedded systems engineering is preferred
5+ years of experience in embedded control systems design and integration
Experience with embedded systems hardware and software integration including proficiency with controller design, real-time systems programming, using debuggers, logging and analyzing data, troubleshooting controllers, etc.

Skills and Abilities

Self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a team and on own initiative
Good analytical troubleshooting skills with excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn new methods and processes
Control systems design experience with sensor and actuator interfaces, dynamic systems modeling, control block diagrams, control algorithms, time and frequency domain modeling, and simulations
Model-based controls development experience using MATLAB/Simulink
Proficiency with real-time systems analysis, design, implementation, and testing
Embedded systems software development experience in C programming
Proficiency with maintaining code bases with source code configuration and control
Experience with data logging and analysis for performance and root cause analysis (including parsing, plotting, calculating summary metrics, etc.)
Using lab instruments (meters, scopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, etc.) for embedded systems testing and debugging.
Familiarity with electronics design including PCBAs, power supplies, filters, amplifiers, discrete I/Os, buffers, transceivers, connectors, etc. is a plus
Auto-code generation in Simulink is a plus
Python scripting and data analysis experience is a plus
Power electronics knowledge and experience with electrical machines is a plus
Experience with ARM Cortex-M based MCUs and development environments is a plus

Role Classification and Working Conditions

This is a salaried, exempt -level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments.

Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to travel, as needed, by plane, automobile, etc.
