About the Job



Research Description:
A postdoctoral appointment in the application of machine learning techniques to
several astrophysical problems at the University of Minnesota. Projects include i)
analysis and interpretation of individual stars and supernovae highly magnified by
foreground cluster lenses using the Hubble Space Telescope, JWST, and
ground-based data, ii) preparation for time-domain observations, including of Type
Ia supernovae, with the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, and iii)
development of simulations of galaxy populations for the Nancy Grace Roman
Space Telescope Galaxy Redshift Survey.
Job Duties
30% Measurement of star formation histories of arcs strongly lensed by foreground
galaxy clusters from photometry obtained using machine learning, and
AI-facilitiated simulations of microlensing.

30% Responsibility for modeling the galaxy populations required for the Roman
simulations for the Roman Galaxy Redshift Survey PIT.

30% Development of transient detection software with the Roman Supernova PIT,
including Siamese neural networks.

10% Attending collaboration meetings, seminars and conferences
Communicating research to the broader community
Writing papers and submitting them for publication in scientific journals
Presenting results at conferences (both domestic and international)

Qualifications



Required:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. as well as experience with data analysis.

Preferred:
Experience with interpretation of imaging, as well as gravitational lensing and/or
transient astronomy, and machine learning.
