The Liver Cancer Clinical Nurse is a professional registered nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for patients within the Hepatobiliary Cancer Clinic. This responsibility involves coordination of interdisciplinary care systems; liaison functions with patients, family, medical staff, and insurance companies; individualized patient and family teaching; assessment of the use and resources necessary for care. Responsibility involves coordination of interdisciplinary medical care delivery system under the direction of the Section Chief and/or Hepatobiliary surgeons, and Nurse Manager; liaison functions with patient, family, medical staff, referring physicians, and insurance companies; individualized patient/family teaching; assessment of appropriate medical intervention for effective use of resources and quality assurance. The Liver Cancer Clinical Nurse performs in the professional role as described by the American Nurses Association (ANA); engages in activities related to the coordination of care, education, evidenced –based practice and research, quality improvement, leadership, collaboration, professional practice evaluation, resource utilization, environmental health, and patient advocacy as appropriate to clinical nursing practice. This position requires an advanced level of expertise and overall understanding of Hepatobiliary disease. Additional responsibilities include data collection for clinical management.
The Liver Cancer Clinical Nurse reports directly to the Nurse Manager. Clinical functions are supervised by the Liver Cancer Center Chief and section faculty, and the Nurse Manager. Overall job performance is evaluated jointly by the Nurse Manager and Section Chief and faculty overseeing the Liver Cancer Center.
Salary Range: $59.46-$88.39/hourly
- Current California Registered Nurse license, graduation from an accredited nursing program with two (2) years critical care experience or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- BLS/CPR Card from AHA or ARC.
- Must have “meets expectations” rating on most recent evaluation for current employees; must meet required position competencies.
- Demonstrated by previous experience:
- 1) an ability and experience to act as an effective teacher in a clinical setting
- 2) ability to interface effectively with patients and their families
- 3) ability to interface with Medical staff and Nursing staff;
- 4) ability to teach about surgery and medical management issues.
- An ability to apply a broad knowledge base to complex problem solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively with persons of various cultural backgrounds.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interface effectively with patients and their families
- Excellent organizational skills, proficiency in meeting deadlines, ability to work independently and prioritize workload.
- Ability to manage numerous concurrent tasks in a high stress environment and deal with change
- Demonstrated by previous experience and accomplishment an ability to apply a broad knowledge base to complex problem solving, and to effectively coordinate and assess patient care and act as a liaison with nursing staff, outside agencies, team physicians, referring physicians, patients and families.
- Ability to represent the Medical Center in site visits and review by Managed Care and insurance groups.
- Ability to teach about Hepatobiliary disease and medical management issues.
