The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Operating Needs:
Ability to perform appropriate nursing assessment, nursing clinical intake and provide appropriate professional nursing care per clinical guidelines prior to provider visit with patient: collects patient data, vital signs, obtains laboratory testing per protocol and document results and prepare the patient for provider's assessment and evaluation; collect patient data, vital signs, obtain laboratory testing per protocol and document results and prepare the patient for provider's assessment and evaluation. Communicate critical information to the provider immediately; document in the electronic medical record (EHR); perform treatments and changes dressings as directed by the provider in an accurate and timely manner ensuring complete documentation; competence in obtaining specimens for routine laboratory testing; perform immunizations and PPD as prescribed, accurately completing documentation; provides terminal disinfection of assigned rooms; respond appropriately to a medical or environmental emergency; assist team members in patient care delivery to ensure efficient patient flow; ensure / maintain adequate PAR list of exam room supplies that have not expired.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
NON-COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NY HELPS):
A license and current registration to practice as a practical nurse in New York State; OR a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State; OR an application on file for a limited permit to practice as a practical nurse in New York State.
COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (NON-NY HELPS):
Candidates must have a reachable score on the University at Albany Licensed Practical Nurse Exam List OR
Be a current NYS employee and have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or in a title eligible to transfer to Licensed Practical Nurse OR
Be a former NYS employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of Licensed Practical Nurse
