Description of Work Unit | Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. Located an hour north of the Denver metro area, Fort Collins is a vibrant community of approximately 157,000 residents that offers the convenience of a small town with all the amenities of a large city. At the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, we exist to educate the next generation of veterinarians by providing exceptional veterinary care and service to the community. This work unit exists to instruct professional veterinary students, provide nursing care to patients, collect blood/tissue samples for evaluation, perform anesthetic and surgical procedures, perform physical examinations, maintain accurate medical records, provide an environment for clinical-related research, and provide clear and accurate information to the clients whose pets are hospitalized. The Avian, Exotic, and Zoological (AEZ) Medicine Unit provides examination, diagnostic, and therapeutic management for non-traditional species presented to Colorado State University Teaching Hospital. |
Position Summary | We are looking for a team-oriented veterinary technician to join our team! This is a great opportunity to gain experience working with different species. Our clinical team consists of two faculty veterinarians who concentrate on the care of AEZ patients, one registered veterinary technician, and two veterinary interns who perform a 1-year focused training program in AEZ. Ideally, we are looking for someone with some experience with non-traditional species/zoological companion animal species (exotics), but we are also willing to help train someone with an enthusiastic interest in zoological companion animal medicine. Provide paraprofessional support for the Avian, Exotic, and Zoological medicine departments. Perform diagnostic procedures, perform anesthesia, therapeutic treatments, and provide instruction to veterinary students, interns, and residents. The position is a fully operational technologist performing specialized patient care. This position has an Essential Services designation, meaning this position is required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare. The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the date of hire; the department will not be offering visa sponsorship. |
