Position Description

Position Title
Valve Technician

Reports To
Valve Supervisor, Shift Coordinator or Project Manager

Description
Possesses a thorough understanding of operational principles, applications, and constraints related to gate, globe, check, ball, and butterfly valves. Skilled in disassembling, repairing, adjusting, and reassembling these valves. Capable of recognizing valve markings, knowledgeable about valve nameplates, component identifications, valve match markings, and valve inspection reports. Advanced skills may include rigging, and mechanical lapping & seat repair (EFCO / Lars Lap)

Responsibilities

Perform all duties safely and work in accordance with customer or CRANE procedures.
Disassemble, inspect, perform measurements, and assemble various types of valves (Gate, Globe, Check, Ball, Butterfly).
Properly use and handle M&TE. Takes exact measurements of critical valve components using calipers, micrometers torque wrenches.
Perform pressure seal valve maintenance. Performing basic procedure to install pressure seal gaskets on valves.
Perform valve repacks and adjustments including packing consolidation.
Replace valve body to bonnet gaskets, flange gaskets, and other gaskets as necessary.
Perform valve blue checks and interpret results.
Can perform the basic procedure for manual lapping a valve seat.

Required Experience and/or Education

High School Diploma or GED.
One year mechanical and/or electrical maintenance and repair experience.
Ability to read blueprints.
Mechanical knowledge a plus.
Must have a strong commitment to meeting customer requirements and continuous improvement.
Must be able to work in teams while effectively communicating.
Meet current certification and qualification requirements per CRANE Nuclear QAP-2.0:
- General Valve Training OR Challenge
- General Valve Exam (TM-20)
- General Valve TPE

Physical Requirements

Willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts, up to 72 hours per week.
Ability to travel and be away from home for several weeks up to several months; must be able to travel and support all domestic projects.
Must be able to lift 50lbs without assistance.
Must be able to stand or walk for extended periods (4-6 hours at a time), crawl, stoop, crouch and work overhead with flexibility and full range of motion.
Ability to work in clean, safe, and orderly manner.
Ability to work in conditions where there is exposure to radiation.
Ability to climb, balance, and work at heights from platforms, scaffolding, and ladders (fixed or temporary).
Ability to distinguish depth perception and colors.
Ability to work with handheld tools and/or power operated specialized tooling efficiently.
Ability to wear fall-protection.
Ability to work in extreme heat (greater than 100 degrees F) and within OSHA guidelines.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to wear a full face respirator and anti-contamination clothing from head to toe.

Other Requirements

Must be able to gain unescorted access to a nuclear plant via extensive site background investigation.
Must be able to pass drug and alcohol testing.
Must be able to pass all required computer-based training, classes and written exams for unescorted access.
Able to provide work authorization documents for employment in the United States.
