Babies Can’t Wait (BCW) is Georgia’s early intervention program that offers a variety of coordinated services for infants and toddlers with special needs, from birth to three years-of-age and their families. The purpose of Babies Can’t Wait (BCW) is to:

  • Provide early identification and screening of children with developmental delays and chronic health conditions.
  • Improve the developmental potential of infants and toddlers birth to age three, with developmental or chronic health issues.
  • Support family and caregivers to enhance children's learning and development through everyday learning opportunities.

Purpose

Provides the local health district with direct therapy services, support and education to children and families enrolled in the BCW program by using the Primary Service Provider (PSP) model.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Individual is responsible for support and education of Part C children and their families through direct therapy services in their specialized area. Individual is also responsible for the following:
  • Meets BCW standards for appropriate evaluation and providing ongoing early intervention services for children with a wide range of diagnoses and needs.
  • Working with families to support their child(ren) in developing necessary skills needed to maximize their individual potential, achieve meaningful outcomes and reach goals to the greatest extent possible.
  • Document all evaluations, sessions with family and other pertinent interactions with child and family in accordance with the BCW policy.
  • Attends and participate in assigned meetings and trainings.
  • Collaborate with Multidisciplinary Team of professionals; Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Special Instructors, Service Coordinators, Board Certified Behavioral Analysts, Registered Behavior Technicians and the BCW district office staff.
  • Provides parents with useful strategies and techniques to support their child’s progress towards meeting developmental milestones.
  • Maintains current certification as required.
  • Communicates with Early Intervention Coordinators (EIC), district office staff, families and community resources in a manner that promotes BCW policies and procedures.
  • Assures compliance of all BCW policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy standards.
  • Actively pursue professional growth through affiliation with professional association, webinars and conferences.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills Required

 

  • Must be passionate and committed to early intervention.
  • Must be professional, self-motivated, energetic and genuine.
  • Must be proficient in the skills relative to the area of therapy assigned.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledgeable to latest techniques relative to the area of therapy assigned and ability to maintain a high level of proficiency in that area.
  • Computer literate and ability to learn new skills related to current technology.
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to scheduled appointments.
  • Certificate of automobile insurance.
  • Must pass a background check and fingerprinting.
  • Experience in pediatric rehabilitative services preferred.
  • Must enroll in fee-for-service Medicaid and at least two CMOs and bill third party pay sources.
  • Should be paneled with a variety of private insurance companies.

 

 

Education/Experience

 

  • Masters degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university
  • State licensure in area of therapy assigned
  • Experience working with children from ages birth to three years-of-age
  • Official transcripts required

 

 

** This position is a contract position. Caseload size and individual schedules are flexible and determined based on district need and provider availability. Reimbursement for services provided are based on current Medicaid Rates.

 

Doctorate or professional degree in physical therapy AND current or eligible for Georgia licensure in area of assignment AND Three years of clinical experience in area of assignment OR Three years of experience at the lower level Phys/Occupational Therapist 2 (HCP041) or position equivalent.
