Job Title Student Assistant-Disability Services (Notetaker)
General Description
This is a student position responsible for providing a disability service to support the department in providing equal opportunities in higher education to qualified students with disabilities.
Job Duties
1. Provides assigned disability services to support the mission of the department.
2. Performs work within department and university guidelines, policies, and procedures.
3. Works assigned schedule to meet department needs.
4. May work at varying locations across campus.
5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Attend class with student and take thorough, detailed notes; may perform duties of test reader/scribe to include reading exams and marking answer sheets; lab scribe; assisting in laboratory environment; and/or homework scribe as assigned; work is performed independently under supervision of Disability Services. Must be able to write very legibly; must be able to take good, detailed notes and accommodate the student with a disability, a sample of timed note taking from a recorded lecture will be completed at screening. Must be able to coordinate schedule with the personal and academic schedule of the student for whom services will be provided; ability to establish effective working relations with students with disabilities; dependability and punctuality a MUST, as are patience and courteousness; must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, university and departmental policies and procedures.
2. Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
3. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
4. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
5. Ability to work required schedule in order to provide accommodations.
6. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required for note taking, reading/scribing, or tutoring. Training and instruction will be provided.

Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
