Position: Global Trade Director – Infrastructure
Compensation Details :
- Business Development 19: $109,810 - $146,413 plus a performance-based incentive.
Location:
- Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week.
- This role will be performed from EDC’s Headquarters in Ottawa or one of the community hubs in Montreal or Toronto.

Team & Job Overview:
We are looking for a candidate to join EDC’s Sectors & International Advisory team to deliver on our mandate of creating business opportunities for Canadian exporters and investors. In the role of Global Trade Director - Infrastructure, the successful candidate will leverage their professional networks, business development skills, industry expertise and knowledge of Canadian capabilities to support the development of region-specific sector strategies to generate new export business opportunities for Canadian companies. Working in collaboration with EDC’s Global Business Development team, the successful candidate will collaborate with peers to design and execute a strategy to support Canadian infrastructure companies grow their international business.
The role will also focus on mapping the value chain of specific infrastructure subsectors, building a national network of ecosystem partners, identifying Canadian companies that support these subsectors and building relationships with them to connect them to prospective international clients. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the Canadian infrastructure ecosystem, an existing network within the sector and an ability to understand Canadian infrastructure companies’ product offerings, technical capabilities, competitive advantages and relevant value propositions.
The Global Trade Director is accountable for establishing and maintaining relationships with Canadian companies as well as Canadian sector associations/partners. They are also accountable for participating in sector events, facilitating the introductions of Canadian companies to international opportunities, and in support of EDC’s Business Connection program, providing recommendations on Canadian supply potential related to targeted international supply chains.
The successful candidate will have industry knowledge of one or more of the following infrastructure sectors: airport construction, rail construction, port construction power generation and transmission or another relevant infrastructure sector.

What you will be doing:
- Develop and maintain industry sector strategies for EDC taking into consideration relevant Canadian expertise and industry growth trends and opportunities.
- Qualify relevance/capability of Canadian companies to expand sales opportunities for Canadian exporters in international markets
- Build relationships with Canadian companies to understand their business plans, markets of interest, technical capabilities, product offerings and competitive advantages to enable trade connections of these companies through either direct introductions or through trade events with the support of Global Business Connections team.
- Provide deep expertise on the business and technical capabilities and competitiveness of Canadian companies and identify “best in class” companies for priority support and introductions.
- Represent the voice of the Canadian companies with regards to presenting Canadian solutions to the business needs and requirements of EDC’s international business networks and customers.
- Work with various EDC teams and external partners to keep current on emerging Canadian technologies and Canadian expertise and gather market intelligence in specified sectors of expertise to augment and maintain relevant industry sector strategies.
- Through relationships developed with targeted Canadian companies, identify and facilitate introductions to internal EDC colleagues that can provide additional support through other relevant EDC products and services.
What we are looking for:
- Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, or Business Administration /Finance, in relevant discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of combined business development and technical advisory experience in the relevant sector/area of responsibility, including experience with EPC firms.
- Project delivery experience in the infrastructure sector
- Strong technical knowledge of supply chains acquired through direct business activity within the infrastructure sector.
- Advanced knowledge of best-practices in business development, sales and/or account management.
- Well-developed professional network and strong technical and business knowledge acquired through directly relevant business activity.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a matrix organization and work in virtual teams.
Asset
- Working knowledge of French.
