About the Job



The University of Minnesota's Institute on the Biology of Aging and Metabolism (iBAM) is an interdisciplinary team aimed at advancing research on the fundamental biology of aging. Our goal is to discover ways to therapeutically target aging, which will extend health span.

Primary responsibilities:
Specific technical/bench-work research (60%):
- Supports scientists in the laboratory and conduct investigations and experiments in an assigned area to aid in the solution of a research problem
- Perform routine genetic and molecular studies involving basic biomedical research assays.
- Tissue culture work, processing of tissues and samples; qPCR
- Conduct background literature research on relevant topics including current methods and reagents
- Use of major research instrumentation for readout indices to determine functional outcomes
- Analyze data collected from experiments and work with research team members to prepare data in an easily readable format of graphs, charts, tables and reports of data
- Keep detailed records of all experiments and procedures in laboratory notebooks, databases, spreadsheets, and web-based applications.

General laboratory management duties (30%):
- Prepare media, enzymes, and solutions under sterile conditions in large quantities.
- Work under the Lab Manager to manage day to day laboratory operations by coordinating shipping and receiving, ordering supplies, inventory updates and general laboratory organization
- Follow established biological, chemical and physical safety procedures and train new personnel

Other duties as assigned (10%):
- Help monitor and train undergraduate student workers.
- Requires the ability to work occasional weekend hours

Required Qualifications:
BA/BS or a combination of related education and work experience to equal four years
Handling rodents/small animals exp in research
Stronginterpersonalandwrittenandverbalcommunicationskills;comfortinworkinginateam
