Our climate, sustainability and purpose advisers help clients understand and navigate the complex intersection of their business priorities, sustainability ambitions, society’s and stakeholders’ expectations, and reputational risks. Using data, insights, and our expertise, we shape and guide authentic communications as companies translate their ambition into action. The result: impactful work that supports clients’ business needs by shaping perceptions, protecting reputation, creating action, and changing behaviour in measurable ways.

Role overview

As an expert adviser in sustainability, social impact and purpose, you’ll counsel senior clients to ensure their sustainability and purpose initiatives are communicated effectively to diverse stakeholders. 

You’ll drive an integrated approach to sustainability communications across the agency, utilising experience from corporate reputation, consumer brand communications, public affairs, and digital and social advocacy to deliver creative and impactful programmes.  Your role will provide strategic guidance to clients’ business, sustainability and communications leaders, shape creative direction, and ensure the delivery of high-quality client services.

As a senior member of the London team, you will act on behalf of the whole firm in a leadership capacity, driving and supporting cross-office initiatives across culture, reputation, marketing and growth.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Partner with senior clients to define and authenticate their communications ambitions around sustainability, social impact and purpose, in line with their business priorities.
  • Provide strategic direction, identify key messaging priorities, target audiences, and communication channels to effectively convey sustainability initiatives and thought leadership.
  • Mentor teams within the agency to provide the highest levels of strategic sustainability, social impact and purpose advice and counsel.
  • Lead the evolution and expansion of specialist services within the sustainability and social impact and purpose sector.
  • Leverage and build professional networks both internally and externally to generate organic growth, identify prospects and generate new opportunities.
  • Liaise with ESG and sustainability teams across different regions to connect and build out global and regional initiatives and opportunities.
  • Lead high value new business responses for from RFP to pitch.
  • Initiate and lead strategic marketing initiatives and thought leadership that build the reputation of FleishmanHillard in London and internationally within the sector.
  • Engage proactively with the Omnicom and DAS network to support cross-group / multi agency business development initiatives and growth strategies.

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in sustainability communications, public relations, or corporate communications, preferably within an agency or business environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing sustainability communication strategies that advance or protect business priorities across diverse industries.
  • A strong understanding of UK and EU sustainability reporting legislation and knowledge of existing and future reporting frameworks including TCFD, TNFD, CSRD, SASB, GRI etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to convey complex sustainability concepts in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining client / team relationships, delivering high-quality services, and driving business growth.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team of communications professionals.
  • Adept at talking to a C-Suite client group and running effective senior-focused workshops that shape detailed recommended approaches.
  • Passion for sustainability and environmental stewardship, with a commitment to driving positive change through effective communication.
