Position Details
General Statement | Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis (unless otherwise indicated) and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration. The Honors College Dean will review and evaluate the submitted application materials. Applicants will be notified if their application is being retained in the non-tenure track faculty hiring pool. Appointments are on a part-time basis and vary in duration, from a couple weeks, a semester or an academic year, depending on the specific needs of the Honors College. The salary is dependent on number of courses taught and duration. We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University. |

The Program | Texts and Critics are the foundational critical thinking courses required of all students in the Honors College. The theme for HONR 201, “Texts and Critics” is “Knowledge”, and for HONR 202, it is “Imagination”. Individual sections of “T&C” meet at a variety of times. Each Faculty Fellow will co-facilitate a section of Texts and Critics with an upper-division Student Fellow who has previously taken the course. Class size is limited to 16-18 students, and discussions center on a variety of outstanding texts. Fellows who have taught “Texts and Critics” found the experience a refreshing change of pace and personally rewarding. |

The College | The Honors College at Montana State University provides opportunities for students to study, conduct research, and exchange ideas in a challenging and supportive interdisciplinary academic environment. In addition to taking small enrollment classes with outstanding faculty members, honors students may enroll in honors seminars and courses, and engage in independent study and research opportunities. The Honors College currently enrolls 1,700+ students representing all the academic colleges at MSU. Honors students have brought great distinction to Montana State University, by serving as ambassadors, tutors, organization leaders, agents of outreach and service; by gaining admittance to the nation’s top graduate schools (Yale, MIT, Stanford, Harvard etc.); and by winning major scholarships such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Truman and Goldwater Awards (MSU is among the top ranked institutions in the U.S. with regard to number of Goldwater Scholars with 86 awards). Founded in 1893 as a Land Grant University, Montana State University (MSU) is composed of eight academic colleges and a graduate school and boasts a friendly, supportive faculty and campus environment. Currently, the University hosts an enrollment of over 16,000 students. MSU is located in Bozeman, Montana, an extended community of about 75,000 nestled in the Rocky Mountains in Southwest Montana.
