Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a qualified Per Diem Radiation Therapist in Somerville, NJ. This position is responsible for patient simulation and radiation treatment delivery.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of a JCERT accredited school of radiation therapy
  • 2-5 years of radiation therapy experience

Preferred:

  • Experience with Varian Linacs a plus
  • Aria experience a plus

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Certification by American Registry of Radiographic Technologist in radiation therapy
  • C.P.R. certification from AHA

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Day Shift
  • Per Diem Schedule

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures that the Somerset campus Transfusion Service and Blood Donor Program meet Quality Assurance regulatory requirements including the AABB Quality Program.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards as evidenced by process based or outcomes based internal and external compliance to established quality standards
  • Develops an audit schedule each year that will review the essential functions of the blood bank, and will satisfy all standards and regulations.
  • Ensures all audits are completed as per schedule.
  • Follows up as needed on audits that have identified problems, to ensure that corrective actions are thorough and complete.
  • Prepares documents for supervisor to inform all staff of the results of audits as they relate to each area.
  • Reports all audit results to the Blood Bank Supervisory Staff and Medical Director
  • Performs duties of a Blood Bank bench technologist as needed.
  • Required to work occasional off-shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Assists with validation of new equipment and processes for the Blood Bank and Donor Room.
  • Releases blood products for labeling.
  • Ensures that personnel are provided proper job orientation and training in the performance of their job functions as evidenced by competency evaluation outcomes and patient test results accuracy. Ensures that personnel maintain the required continuing education credits to facilitate and maintain job competency.
  • Acts as Team Leader in the absence of Blood Bank and Donor Room supervisors
  • Responsible for patient radiation treatment delivery
  • Check for correct prescription, treatment plan, calculations, simulation/setup information, and signed consent before the initiation of radiation treatment per site / plan.
  • Accurately positions patient according to instructions provided in the chart and delivers the prescribed radiation dose and treatment
  • Correctly documents treatment data in patients daily radiation treatment record and keeps charts updated
  • Review charts daily for changes to prescription, plans, calculations, and blocking
  • Obtains weekly portal films and/or images at intervals consistent with departmental policy.
  • Assures that all weekly portal films and images are reviewed by the attending radiation oncologist.
  • Uses knowledge of ARIA system to appropriately schedule patient for simulation procedures, treatment setup and delivery, and to facilitate communication between members of oncology team for treatment planning and procedures.
  • Uses knowledge of SCM and Premise to schedule in patients and inform escort service
  • Responsible for patient simulation
  • Explains radiation therapy process and simulation procedures to patient and ensures consent is signed prior to simulation procedure
  • Obtains all pertinent patient information such as diagnostic films, labs and pathology reports prior to the simulation
  • Applies knowledge of patient positioning and correct use of immobilization devices for accurate reproduction of treatment setup.
  • Applies knowledge of general CT Scanner applications to obtain images for treatment planning.
  • Accurately marks and tattoos patient to the coordinates of computed isocenter provided by Voxel Q Workstation
  • Accurately documents patient s treatment position and use of positioning aides, by taking digital photos and writing instructions in chart
  • Coordinate and organize work flow between simulation, dosimetry and treatment.
  • Maintains CT scanner and workstations
  • Participates in department Quality Assurance procedure
  • Performs required daily QA on linear accelerators and CT simulator
  • Participates in weekly chart rounds
  • Observes and reports on patients progress during treatment
  • Assures adherence to regulatory requirement
  • Responsible for production of custom patient shielding and mold room procedures
  • Uses knowledge of mold room procedures to produce custom patient shielding
  • Accurately cut, mount, and verify custom blocks
  • Maintains mold room work area
  • Participate in On-Call rotation as needed
  • Assists in instruction of student technologists
  • Performs all duties in a friendly and courteous manner, offering.
  • Works overtime when needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed
