Apple is seeking an Engineering Program Manager (EPM) to join the Sensing Technologies Incubation team to drive early technology and user experience investigations, influencing technology and feature decisions for future Apple products. The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate their engineering background to proactively lead a dedicated multi-functional engineering team through definition and Proof of Concept of new technologies and architectures for Apple products. They would have a consistent track record of leading teams through developing complex hardware technology and working through ambiguity. This candidate would also command a deep understanding of the phases of technology development and how best to apply situational program management to organize, develop and orchestrate a program plan.

Description

Your responsibilities would consist of: -Driving project definition, resource management, milestones, and timelines in an early concept environment with a lot of uncertainty. -Bridging communication cross-functionally across technology, product, and design organizations and ensure necessary project support and prioritization. -Fostering project and team progress through pro-active and persistent championing of goals, bridging communication, aligning incentives, and influencing decision making. -Providing focus and clarity where needed. -Supporting early phase investigations through driving goal definition, prototype planning, and shepherding nascent concepts into actionable activities. -Constantly engaging in pro-active risk management, and effectively communicating status and issues to the development team and Apple executives. -Strong presentation and communication skills required. -Grasping complex technical topics and abstract key issues and risks into an actionable form for executive management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with early technology development and consumer product life cycles
  • BS degree in engineering field + 5 years relevant experience

  • In-depth technical engineering knowledge to effectively establish and manage projects especially through the early concept definition phases, assess and drive technical risks, and critically challenge engineering decisions.
  • Exceptional program management and leadership skills: rigorous and proactive approach to orchestration of program plans, schedule estimates, and definition and management of project goals. Experience with a wide range of project types and maturity levels.
  • Persistent but versatile program management approach, providing structure and/or flexibility situationally.
  • Highly motivated by learning new technologies and can pick up fundamental principles very quickly.
  • Experience working on proof-of-concept stage hardware and software prototyping.
  • Data driven decision maker with ability to take calculated risks.
  • Remains calm and works comfortably with dynamic project requirements and across organizational barriers. Excellent conflict resolution skills.
  • Skilled at handling accountability without control, knowing how to identify and drive priorities from among the multiple issues competing for your attention.
  • Ability to bring focus and transparency to complex situations while monitoring the bigger picture and the needs of a rapid development cycle.
