Performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states.
Reports to: Laboratory Supervisor
Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing.
Collects samples and analyze bodily fluids and substances for abnormalities. Collects blood and study blood samples used in transfusions
Operates laboratory equipment in a high-quality, effective manner.
Analyzes test results for accuracy, acceptability, and critical limits, and reports/documents results per organizational standards.
Performs automated tests using automated equipment.
Runs tests and analyzes the results to accurately report the results.
Performs Quality Assurance to ensure accuracy of equipment.
Minimum EducationBachelor's degree in a laboratory, chemical, biological or physical science - Required
Graduation from NAACLS-Accredited Program - Preferred
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Required SkillsLicenses:
Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification (ASCP or AMT) or State of Tennessee Medical Technologist Generalist - Required within 12 months of hire or transfer to position
Minimum Work Experience
One (1) year experience in a clinical laboratory as a technologist, hospital environment - Preferred
