WHAT IS THE FACILITIES MANAGEMENT AND SECURITY SERVICES DIVISION?

Vacancies will be filled in the following specialty areas:
Facilities Management and Security Services Operations Mid-Atlantic

The following are the duties of this position at the full working level. If this vacancy includes more than one grade and you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform these duties and receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Receives visitors and phone calls. Deals cordially and tactfully with callers. Ascertains nature of requests and directs callers to appropriate staff, or personally provides the information desired when routine or procedural matters of the office are involved.
  • Requisitions and purchases office services, office supplies, office equipment repairs, copier services, training, and other day-to-day needs of the office in coordination with the Administrative Office.
  • Operates a government owned vehicle to transport passengers, mail, files equipment, etc, for the IRS officials including Office of Chief Counsel and the Commissioner's office, within the Washington DC Metropolitan area in all traffic conditions.
  • Schedules appointments by contacting attendees, obtaining the proper location for scheduled conferences, scheduling rooms, copying and assembling materials and reports, and obtaining the necessary equipment when needed.
  • Performs data entry and retrieves information from various systems which includes running available system reports, often on an established schedule.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. (Birth certificate showing birth in the U.S; Unexpired U.S. Passport; Certificate of Citizenship or Naturalization; or Report of Birth Abroad of a U.S. Citizen (Form FS-240))
  • A 1-year probationary period is required.

  • Must successfully complete a background investigation, including a FBI criminal history record check (fingerprint check).
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired original or certified copies.
  • The employment of any candidate, including a current employee or a new hire, selected for this position may be conditional upon classification and/or audit of federal tax returns. This audit may include up to 2 years of returns.
  • Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • Possess a valid state motor vehicle operator's license or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (upon appointment OR within 30 days of appointment) and maintain a valid license while you occupy the position.

Qualifications

Federal experience is not required. The experience may have been gained in the public sector, private sector or Volunteer Service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-timework is considered on a prorated basis.

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-06 LEVEL: To be minimally qualified you must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-5 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Experience operating a motor vehicle; Experience with motor vehicle procedures and experience with operation controls for trucks, vans, light panel and passenger vehicles weighing up to 10000 lbs., sufficient for driving these vehicles in all types of traffic, road and weather conditions. Driving experience must be sufficient to conduct safe and timely transport of passengers and documents regardless of traffic problems. Experience meeting and dealing courteously and tactfully with others to accomplish work assignments, clarify requirements and verify completion; Experience operating a variety of office automation equipment to enter data in various automated systems; Experience applying grammar, spelling, punctuation and commonly used formats and terminology to communicate procedural and factual information to business customers.

AND

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: Applicants for this position must have a valid U.S. Drivers License.

AND

MEET TIME IN GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT: You must meet applicable TIG requirements to be considered eligible. To meet TIG for positions above the GS-05 grade level, you must have served at least one year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade (or equivalent) in the normal line of progression for the position you are applying to. Advancement to positions up to GS-05 is permitted if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade held within the preceding 52 weeks.

AND

TIME AFTER COMPETITIVE APPOINTMENT: By the closing date (or if this is an open continuous announcement, by the cut-off date) specified in this job announcement, current civilian employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since their latest non-temporary appointment from a competitive referral certificate, known as time after competitive appointment. For this requirement, a competitive appointment is one where you applied to and were appointed from an announcement open to "All US Citizens".
