MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have resided in the United States for 18 consecutive months prior to employment for the purpose of screening by G-2.
- Fluent in target language of Swahili.
- Must be able to access Ft Johnson and other military facilities. (The base may require a Real ID. The Real ID Act of 2005 is an Act of Congress that modifies U.S. federal law pertaining to security, authentication, and issuance procedure standards for drivers' licenses and identity documents, as well as various immigration issues pertaining to terrorism. The federal Real ID Act places new rules on which forms of identification may be used to board flights within the United States (U.S.) and enter secure federal facilities, such as military bases, federal courthouses, and other federal facilities.)
Type 1 – primary language will be designated by the government in accordance with specific rotational requirements. Individuals will have the ability to speak, read, and write in both English and target language at the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) 3 level or equivalent. Individuals are not required to possess any special professional qualifications and/or knowledge but must have the ability to convincingly portray a wide variety of skills.
Type 2 - primary language will be designated by the government in accordance with specific rotational requirements. Individuals will have the ability to speak, read, and write in both English and target language at the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) 3 level or equivalent. Individuals must be able to perform rotational duties as military interpreters for the RTU.
Type 3 - primary language will be designated by the government in accordance with specific rotational requirements. Individuals will have the ability to speak, read, and write in both English and target language at the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) 3 level or equivalent. Individuals will be required to have special professional qualifications and/or knowledge in accordance with specific rotational exercise requirements that will be identified prior to start of the rotation.
Type 4 - Personnel with cultural experience for a target country or region to provide a realistic cultural training experience, primarily in East Africa. They will typically portray the Armed Forces of the East African commanders, primary staff officers, translators and East African civil leaders. Cultural role players will have lived in for an extended period of time or have recent (last 5 years) experience in East Africa. Personnel must possess a high degree of familiarity with East African language, culture, history, religion, customs, and courtesies.
Background Check
Must pass a pre-hire background check, base screening, and agree to random on demand substance abuse checks (including urinalysis, breathalyzer, blood test and/or other appropriate tests/instruments). All cultural role players will be Counterintelligence (CI) screened as a condition of employment. Failure to receive a positive review will be cause for removal from Fort Johnson. All individuals who have not been previously screened shall have a completed SF85P & OFI 86C when they arrive at Fort Johnson.
Subject matter experts may be required to possess a Secret security clearance.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Type 4 – Personnel with previous East African government service or experience as a member of the Armed Forces of East Africa are preferred. Desired experience may include but not limited to; military, para-military, police officer, civil service employee of a ministry of defense, interior, agriculture, public health, customs/border control, judge, lawyer, government prosecutor, tribal, religious leader, teacher and/or professor in East Africa.
WORK SCHEDULE
Part time on call. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.
TRAVEL
Travel to Fort Johnson at the beginning of the rotation. Travel from Fort Johnson after the end of the rotation.
DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Field Environment
Role players must have the ability to spend extended periods of time outdoors in tactical field conditions of the JRTC training maneuver area in all seasons, maintain appropriate level of physical endurance and health to operate in austere tactical field conditions under simulated combat operations and under the life support like the Armed Forces of East Africa and the Soldiers in the exercise, and the ability to ride in tactical and/or non-tactical vehicles wearing appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with JRTC safety policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Role players shall be physically capable of performing their assigned work under normally anticipated climatic conditions, such as extreme weather (heat, humidity, sleet, rain, etc.). Must be able to wear a Kevlar helmet and load bearing equipment for up to 14 hours a day and be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain in a tactical field environment. Wear uniforms and equipment to standards: role-play uniforms and individual military equipment (helmet, level 2 or 3 body armor, load bearing equipment, etc.).
