Do you keep calm and think clearly under pressure? Do you love working in a fast-paced, team-orientated atmosphere? The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of 9-1-1 Telecommunicator.
The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office 9-1-1 Central Dispatch Center is the primary Public Safety Answering Point for Tuscarawas County, receiving all 9-1-1 Emergency calls for service. Central Dispatch is also the primary dispatch center for the Sheriff’s Office, 10 police departments, 19 fire departments, and 14 Emergency Medical Services stations.
Nature of the Profession
- This profession will require you to work irregular hours (Afternoons/Midnights, Weekends, and Holidays) on 8-hour, and up to 12-hour, shifts.
- The nature of this profession is stressful. You will be subjected to information and situations that are both sensitive, and possibly, disturbing.
- This is a high-detail oriented profession, which requires you to capture critical, time-sensitive information in a fast-paced environment.
- Telecommunicator Trainees will be required to study and comprehend a wealth of job-specific information.
- This profession requires team-oriented members--all emergency response professionals working together to complete the task.
- This profession requires members who genuinely want to help people.
Minimum Requirements
- High School diploma or GED, supplemented by courses in data entry or computer operations.
- Ability to speak clearly and distinctly over the telephone and radio.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in highly stressful situations.
- Ability to work as a team-member, as well as act independently when the situation dictates.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with fellow employees.
Inherently hazardous or physically demanding working conditions:
The employee: is exposed to chemicals commonly found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid); may be exposed to emotionally distraught persons, works in close proximity to firearms.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered sedentary work.
