Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Factory Chemist, located at the Caro Factory.
Job Summary:
A Factory Chemist at Michigan Sugar is responsible for management of the Process, Product Quality Assurance, and Environmental Labs. The Chemist will also manage all Feed and Food Safety Programs which include conducting annual trainings, inspections and audits for the factory. This position requires the ability to perform sugar, by-product and chemical analysis, as well as technical accounting for the sugar process. Analytical wastewater responsibilities include environmental testing and regulatory reporting.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyzing lab data to trouble-shoot process issues for sugar manufacturing, molasses desugarization (chromatographic separation) and environmental
- Supervising lab personell
- Factory Quality Assurance Program
- Management of all Feed & Food Safety programs (SQF & HARPC)
- Training and auditing laboratory staff in analytical procedures
- Safety and productivity of the 24-hour, 7-day week laboratory crews
- Inventory control and reporting including physical inspections
- Process control and development
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 10 years experience
- Strong leadership abilities
- Understanding of chemical analysis and quality control
- Able to acquire HARPC, PCQI and SQF certifications
- Good communication skills
- Proficient skills in MS Word and Excel
