Assistant Director of Dining Service, Operations
Dining Service
Description
JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director plays a vital role in the overall management and success of the campus dining program. This position collaborates closely with members of the campus community to ensure the delivery of high-quality, diverse, and efficient dining services that meet the needs of students, faculty, staff, and guests. The Assistant Director will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, implementing strategic initiatives, and fostering a positive dining experience for the college community.
Employment Type: Full-time (12 months), Exempt (salaried), and Benefits-Eligible
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Oversight
• Manage the day-to-day operations of dining facilities, including but not limited to the Market Place, Courtyard Cafe, STEAMery, and catering services • Organize the schedule for full-time, part-time, seasonal, and call-in Dining Service employees • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, sanitation standards, and food quality control. • Collaborate with culinary and service teams to develop and maintain high-quality menu offerings that meet the diverse needs of the college community
Staff Management
• Supervise and support dining services staff, including hiring, training, and performance management. • Organize the schedule for full-time, part-time, seasonal, and call-in Dining Service employees • Lead weekly Market Place Supervisor meetings
• Oversee the Dining Service student employment process led by Market Place Supervisors
• Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork, professionalism, and employee development
Strategic Planning
• Contribute to the development and implementation of long-term strategic plans for the dining service department • Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation to enhance the overall dining experience • Collaborate with the students, staff, and faculty to assess and respond to evolving trends in campus dining and food services
Customer Service and Satisfaction
• Provide a physical presence in daily service operations • Foster a customer-centric culture by implementing and monitoring service standards • Address customer feedback, concerns, and suggestions in a timely and effective manner • Develop and implement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty
Financial Management
• Assist in budget and payroll activities in conjunction with the Auxiliary Services Office Manager • Monitor expenses, analyze financial reports, and implement cost-saving measures without compromising service quality • Lead Student and staff meal plan management (One Card)
Collaboration
• Provides support and collaboration for Catering and Summer Programs and/or other departments in Auxiliary Services, as requested. • Work closely with the Associate Vice President, Auxiliary Services and other key stakeholders to implement sustainable and environmentally friendly practices • All other duties as assigned
This position has been designated as weather- or emergency-essential. In the event of a closure of the College, it is vital that you report to work if scheduled. In addition, as a member of the Essential Weather Employee Team, you may be asked to work beyond your normal hours to ensure coverage within your department/office. As a salaried employee, this work will not be compensated with additional pay.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Extended periods of standing, sitting and walking • Exposure to sharp instruments, hot ovens and equipment, and walk-in coolers/freezers, • Physical work including lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally • Exposure to cleaning and sanitizing agents • This position includes daytime, evening, night, weekend shifts, and extended hours required as needed
