Job Description Summary

This technical role contributes to the development of new BWR fuel technology products and their application within the nuclear core. This role is intended for a rapidly developing subject matter expert in the areas of lattice physics, 3D core simulation, fuel thermal-hydraulics, and/or fuel cycle evaluation of the fuel system. This role may also focus on application of BWR fuel products to new plant designs (e.g. BWRX-300). The role will interface across the engineering organization to integrate and evaluate the fuel system that includes the technical domains of methods, bundle/core design, fuel thermal-hydraulics, fuel thermal-mechanical, fuel mechanical, and safety analyses.

This role is within the Reactor Physics Technology team, which is responsible for the development, maintenance, analytics, and technical consultation of engineering computer codes, correlations, and methodologies related to Boiling Water Reactor (BWR), Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR), and advanced/fast reactors and their fuel.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

• Provide meaningful contributions and leadership in the development, application, and licensing of BWR fuel products.

• Work within an approved regulatory framework for nuclear software quality assurance for engineering computer programs.

• Prepare, document and present technical data to internal and external customers.

• Contribute to and lead team process improvements to drive speed and simplification.

• Interface with various teams, functional areas, and subject matter experts across the fuel business.

• Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with NRC rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.

• Drive a team culture based on team work, integrity, candor, transparency, and execution on commitments.

• Effectively communicate and coordinate activities with other team members on engineering/technical issues.

• Assist and provide support to the team technical leader and functional manager to plan, status and execute projects.

• Support teams working in various time zones globally.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering or a closely related technical discipline AND minimum of 4 years of experience in nuclear core design/optimization and/or nuclear fuel design/optimization

OR

• Master’s degree from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering or a closely related technical discipline AND minimum of 2 years of experience in nuclear core design/optimization and/or nuclear fuel design/optimization

OR

• Ph.D. from an accredited university or college in nuclear engineering or a closely related technical discipline with a thesis or substantial coursework in nuclear core design/optimization and/or nuclear fuel design/optimization

Eligibility Requirements:

• The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

• Comfortable with less than 10% travel

• This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment. ​

Desired Qualifications:

• M.S. degree or Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or a closely related discipline.

• Prior experience with BWR fuel and core design.

• Prior experience with neutronic and core simulation methods (eg., PANACEA, Simulate, TGBLA, CASMO, MCNP, TRACG, RELAP).

• Programming experience with Fortran, C#, and Python.

• Working knowledge of nuclear reactor core licensing, technical specifications, safety margin bases, code methodology licensing, and related federal regulations.

• Publication of technical articles and/or patent applications.

• Demonstrated ability to make decisions with speed and accuracy based on the best available information.

• Exceptional organization skills.

• Legacy of delivering on commitments; tenacious, with a proven track record of overcoming obstacles; ability to achieve stretch targets.

• Strong external focus; clear and demonstrated understanding of nuclear industry and/or energy industry.

• Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or equivalent quality certification.

The base pay range for this position is $86k-122k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 7/15/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
