Job Description:
The NOvA Far Detector in Ash River MN is used to probe fundamental physics working with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory 500+ miles from the Ash River site. The building is owned and operated by the University of Minnesota. The staff of 5 is trained in the maintenance of the detector systems and building infrastructure, with rotating mandatory 24/7 On-Call to ensure the detector is operating. We also participate in the next generation experiment, DUNE, by assisting in trial assembly and testing at Ash River. This consists of the full-scale testing of all the DUNE components and adapting procedures for construction. This job is hired with the University of Minnesota and works in conjunction with Fermi National Laboratory.

Description: This position is responsible for the general inspection and testing of building systems and hardware. In addition, they will assemble and test DUNE components.
This position is also responsible for the caretaking of the building, grounds and detector. Positions are responsible for a wide variety of maintenance, repair and replacement for buildings and equipment. Training will be provided.

The employee in this position will work a ten hour/four-day work week, Monday through Thursday, this includes a rotating shift of 24/7 on-call to come in when needed. This position at the NOvA Far Detector Laboratory will last three to four years, at which time the detector will be decommissioned. Work may continue while decommissioning and with DUNE; on-call will stop.

50% - General inspection and testing of building systems and hardware.
Preventative maintenance and inspection of building systems, including systems that are for the detector. This includes troubleshooting issues in systems and suggesting action. These systems include the fire system, rooftop heating and cooling units, low-pressure steam humidifiers, dry gas delivery system, water discharge, and more.

25% - Assembly and testing of DUNE components. Working with others to test and develop strategies in relation to parts of the DUNE detector. Will be using machines such as scissor lift, crane, and forklift as well as other power tools.

15% - Grounds Keeping
Plowing, mowing, shoveling, snow blowing, brush cutting, power spraying, and other tasks involving the upkeep of grounds. Maintenance with applicable tools used for these activities.

10% - Other General Maintenance and custodial duties
Clean and dry floors using an industrial scrubbing machine. Cleans bathrooms and conference room. Take out trash and similar cleaning.

Other duties of a similar scope as assigned.
