The Chicopee Board of Assessors plays a major role in promoting the effective financial management of Chicopee.
About the Job
The City of Chicopee -- Assessor's Office is hiring a Principal Clerk that can perform a variety of secretarial, clerical, bookkeeping, and administrative tasks in support of the Board of Assessors and Administrative Assistant.
Qualifications
To be minimally qualified, one must meet the following criteria:
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
A minimum of three months related experience and/or training.
Ability to use the Assessor's software package on the city's computer.
Ability to communicate and work with the public under pressure.
Good computer and telephone skills.

Essential Duties Include
Handles approximately 2,500 real estate exemption and deferral applications. Reviews the application in detail for ownership, income and expense information and personally contacts all applicants that need to submit further information or clarify information. Processes all exemptions in the tax file and prepares and files all reports with the Department of Revenue for state reimbursement.
Handles all duties related to 1000 Personal Property accounts, including the mailing of postcards to all businesses, intake of Forms of List, Abatements and tracking new businesses.
Processes the applications for Tax ADE. Reviews applicants for residential and ownership eligibility. Notifies applicants of approval or denial of abatement.
Responsible for the intake and review of the 3ABC exemption forms .and the Chapter landforms.
Responsible for the mailing and intake of approximately 1200 Income and Expense statements
Assist with motor vehicle excise matters.
Assist with counterwork and answering phones.
Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel
Other related duties as the need arises.
Salary/Compensation
Employment Status: UFCW Administration Union, Non-Exempt; Full-Time
Salary: Grade A04, Step 01 - Starting at $19.81 per hour
Expected Hours
This is a Full-Time, 35-hour per week position, with a schedule of 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
