About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.

The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted. This will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate's skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.

This position is responsible to perform various business-related activities to support the Compliance area of Human Resources.

It reports to the Manager, Employee Relations and HR Compliance and can be located in OH, PA, WV or NJ with travel to Akron, OH as needed.

Responsibilities include:


Identifying and implementing legal requirements and government reporting relationships affecting human resource functions (EEO, ADA, and Affirmative Action).
Participating in the development of HR related policies, procedures and programs and systems to meet corporate goals and ensure compliance with applicable legislation
Managing the process for annual EEO-1's, and Vets 4212reports
Managing compliance functions including background checks, CIP/RAAD access, poster compliance program, harassment training, unemployment, pre-employment testing
Counselling Leadership and field Human Resources Representatives about background checks, I-9's, AAP, employment legislation, discrimination and harassment issues as well as other various employee issues, including accommodation requests
Investigating and responding to external harassment and discrimination charges
Supports Employee Relations functions as needed
Assisting or coordinating reorganizations during company restructuring downsizing and layoffs
Analyzing compliance/employment/diversity related statistics and reporting on data collected including responding to internal and external data requests
Supporting Diversity & Inclusion initiatives
Manage functional Affirmative Action Plans including all updates, renewals and communications
Preparing and delivering compliance presentations
Serving as the company liaison to various government agencies (OFCCP, EEOC, etc)
Manage vendor relationships with HR compliance vendors
Providing a high level of service, continuous support, and proactive involvement to leadership and peers
Conducting business specific research and analyzing data; interpreting results; assisting in implementation activities
Working on special projects as assigned
Traveling to company locations and seminars as required
Developing process improvements and efficiencies to improve work product
Conducting in-depth strategic research and analyzing data; interpreting results; providing solutions
Consulting with business unit leaders on compliance practices; recommending and interpreting compliance policies and processes
Providing project management and analytical support in key compliance special projects
Assisting with the compilation of various reports and statistics for the company's various compliance programs and initiatives.

Qualifications include:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or a related discipline and minimum 7 years relevant work experience is required. In lieu of Bachelor's degree (preferred), minimum 10 years relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience will include background in HR, strong attention to detail, project management skills and ability to consult and provide guidance
