The Surgery Data Coordinator registers adults and geriatric patients on protocols, compiles and submits quality data and monitors study compliance.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Surgery Data Coordinator at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Prepares reports and assists with statistical analysis.
  • Assists in the preparation, codification, documentation and execution of research protocol.
  • Executes the following in accordance with all aspects of the protocol: patient recruitment, consenting, and initiation.
  • Assists with preparations required for site initiation visits, sponsor visits, and other audits as may be required or scheduled.
  • Submits monthly progress reports and other related duties in the protocol to which they are assigned, as requested.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned. Such as assisting Sr. Data Coordinator with data coordination for IRB, or NSQIP as directed.
  • Collects and enters data into department or other data base as indicated.
  • Registers patients after ascertaining eligibility and fulfillment of eligibility requirements.
  • Obtains, collates and copies all necessary information in order to complete the required forms.
  • Assures appropriate patient follow-up by accurately reviewing, correcting, updating and maintaining records.
  • Assures that all patients have signed informed consent prior to registering patient.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in health related field; i.e., Medical Records, Computer Science, Health Information Systems, Data Collection, Nursing.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in a related area.
  • Data coordination experience.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

  • Maintains thorough knowledge of all aspects of assigned protocol, including primary clinical aim, method of protocol execution, budgetary and logistic components and contractual requirements.
