Position Summary
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science are transforming our world. Both fields are at the forefront of innovation in robotics, health care, system design, media forensics, infrastructure, materials science, sustainability, and countless other areas that are key to the United States’ future economy and security. Properly deployed, these tools offer hope for solving complex problems like detecting fraud buried deep in financial systems, reducing human bias in the judicial system, improving emergency response to natural and man-made disasters, enhancing manufacturing, supply chains and transportation systems and improving human well-being through smart and connected communities.

The Department of Materials Design & Innovation seeks applicants for a multi-departmental faculty cluster that will engage collaboratively on a variety of shared problems that can benefit from the application of emerging data science tools. We are particularly looking for faculty with expertise in utilizing data intensive computational methods in addressing fundamental materials science challenges related to the broad area of sustainability and clean energy technologies, including but not limited to areas such as hydrogen storage, steelmaking and green chemistry.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in Materials Science or related fields is required, or verification that all requirements for conferral have been met by the appointment date.
  • Candidates for an Associate Professor or Full Professor position should have a strong record of scholarly accomplishments, teaching experience and bring and maintain a sustained externally funded research program.
