Summary of Duties:
The Director for Health Equity Education (DHEE) reports to the Associate Dean for Community, Health Equity and Belonging. The incumbent is responsible for serving as a thought leader for the college as it pertains to the development, design, coordination, and implementation of health equity education in the curriculum and across the college.
The incumbent is expected to foster a positive and inclusive academic environment for learners and faculty alike. The DHEE will collaborate with college leadership to ensure integration of health equity education across the continuum of learning.
This is a 12-month annual, continuous, career track faculty role with sub-track and rank determined at time of selection based on incumbent's qualifications. In accordance with the Faculty Manual, the additional administrative role of Director is fixed-term and serves at the discretion of Chair, Dean and/or Executive Vice President of Health Sciences regardless of term.
The incumbent may be based at any of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine Clinical Campuses in WA State such as Spokane, Tri-Cities, Vancouver, or Everett.
The position allows for flexibility in FTE to accommodate the incumbent's clinical and/or research activities.
Scope of Work:
Educational Program Health Equity Curriculum
Vertically and horizontally integrate the curricular and assessment framework for the Health Equity thread for the education programs (e.g. MD, Speech and Hearing, Graduate Medical Education, etc.) in the college.
At the direction of and in partnership with the leaders of the education programs in the college:
• Develop learning objectives, activities, and assessment methodologies to assure program goals/outcomes are met.
• Ensure continuity and integration across the curriculum, including appropriate spiraling of content, use of the full spectrum of learning modalities, and assessment alignment with developmental milestones.
• Develop and/or review assessment methodologies when requested.
• Assist, as needed, in advising learners who are having difficulty achieving expected learning outcomes and work with faculty in the formulation of targeted skills development and remediation plans.
• Monitor course and program evaluations, and aggregate student performance, to assure high quality experiences and learning outcomes.
• Lead (co-lead) courses/components as required.
• Reviewing and finalizing outward facing educational materials for health equity, ensuring the inclusion of necessary communications and information for all learners and faculty.
• Participate in and/or lead specific tasks or activities as required by the educational programs.
Consistent with a leadership role in the college, support faculty as well as others that may be part of an assigned portfolio. Support of faculty includes but is not limited to:
• Supporting development of clinical objectives, development and/or delivery of teaching methods, development and/or completion of assessment tools.
• Formulating, supporting and/or moderating faculty enhancement and remediation when consulted.
• Assisting in navigation departmental, college, and university structure.
• Creating CME opportunities.
• Facilitating opportunities for scholarship and inquiry.
• Forming mentoring relationships.
Faculty and Staff Development
In partnership with the Assistant Deans for Diversity, Health Justice and Belonging and the Associate Dean for Faculty Development:
• Develop faculty and staff development curriculum in accordance with the college's Strategic Diversity Action Plan.
• Lead Faculty Development to address identified educational program needs.
• Lead specific trainings for faculty and staff to address gaps in knowledge, skills, and behaviors.
• Function as a content expert for health equity education within and outside of the college.
Health Equity Consultative Services
In Partnership with the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Health Justice and Belonging and the Associate Dean for Land Gant Mission and Community Engagement:
• Provide consultative services for compliance with legislative requirements of healthcare and health science programs regarding health equity.
• Provide consultative services for community partners in development of health equity trainings and staff development.
• Develop and deliver compliance materials for legislative requirements regarding health equity as contract services.
• Develop and deliver health equity training materials for community partners as contract services.
Service/Citizenship
Demonstrate Service and Citizenship to the Department, College, University, State and Professional Organizations by:
• Serving where needed as a voice to represent the Department, College, or University on committees, working groups, and task forces.
• Modeling professionalism and leadership.
• Fostering diversity and inclusion and supporting inter-professionalism.
• Promoting a positive work/learning environment in all academic and clinical settings.
• Building strong relationships with COM stakeholders and constituents.
• Partnering with development director to support fundraising initiatives.
• Traveling to College campus locations and other locations throughout the state, as necessary to ensure comparability, relationship-building, faculty development, and consultative services.
• Functioning as the external face for health equity education for the College and University.
Non-Essential Functions
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as needed.
Required Qualifications —All Tracks and Ranks:
• Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, PhD or equivalent terminal degree; A master's degree in a relevant field and Five (5)+ years of work experience in health sciences education or other relevant entity may be considered in lieu of terminal degree.
• Two or more years of work experience focused on health equity education.
• Ability to travel and drive for work purposes
Additional Required Qualifications for Candidates in all Tracks at Associate rank:
• Current or previous appointment at the Associate rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
• Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for associate rank.
Additional Required Qualifications for Candidates in all Tracks at Full Professor rank:
• Current or previous appointment at the full professor rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
• Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for full professor rank.
Preferred Qualifications—All Tracks and Ranks:
• Three or more years of medical education experience.
• Experience developing medical school clinical courses.
• Proven experience in management of multiple initiatives and multiple sites.
• Academic faculty status at allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
• Experience with LCME and/or other accrediting bodies.
• Experience working with diverse students or diverse populations, especially in rural and under-served areas.

Salary: The base salary for the Career Track position is $110,000-265,000 at 100% FTE. This salary range is commensurate with qualifications, earned degree, track and rank determination and negotiated full-time equivalency (FTE). In addition to the salary reflected above, while serving as Director, this position will be eligible for an annual temporary administrative stipend.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
