Job Description

The Db2 for I Development DBA plays a critical role in planning, designing, developing, and configuring database systems to meet business needs and requests. This position combines both development and production DBA responsibilities. As a Db2 for i DBA, you will be responsible for administration, capacity planning, engineering/design, performance monitoring, and optimization of the DB2 for i database platform.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and Implementation:

o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new database environments.

o Redesign existing systems to align with business requirements.

2. Performance Management:

o Monitor and evaluate the performance of IBMi databases.

o Troubleshoot database performance issues to ensure optimal system operation.

3. Test Environment Support:

o Maintain test environments by configuring databases according to development specifications.

o Assist developers and testing teams in ensuring smooth testing processes.

4. Data Modeling:

o Work closely with application development teams to develop data models that support business processes.

5. Change Management:

o Review all proposed database changes suggested by the IBMi development team.

Required Skills & Experience

o Bachelor's degree

o 7-10 years of experience in IBMi/iSeries/AS400 experience /RPG/SQL/

o 7-10 years of experience supporting DB2 for databases in an enterprise environment.

o 7-10 years of experience diagnosing and remediating Db2 for i Database performance: using tools such as Plan Cache, Visual Explain, Index Advisor, Detailed Database Monitor, or similar tools.

o Strong analytic and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

o Effective verbal and written communication

Nice to Have Skills & Experience

o Experience using Turnover, Aldon, or similar change management tools.
