• Master’s degree in a related discipline such as education or educational leadership from a regionally accredited college/university

• Two (2) years of administrative experience in higher education serving as a Department Chair/Head or higher

• Demonstrated knowledge of teaching or training excellence. Broad understanding of the various disciplines which constitute strong business and industry programs Dynamic and innovative leadership experience

• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, resolve conflict, and identify solutions to complex problems

• Ability to manage day-to-day needs and execute operational requirements Experience in fiscal planning and budgeting

• Demonstrated success in building partnerships and collaborative agreements Demonstrated passion for community and technical college student success Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives

• Doctorate degree in a related discipline, doctor of education, educational leadership, or higher education degree

• Five (5) years of administrative experience in higher education serving as a Department Chair/Head or higher

• Three (3) years working in business and industry in a leadership/management role.

• Three or more years of experience in supervising professional personnel, which includes evaluating, motivating and developing employees

• Teaching in a higher education setting

• Experience overseeing selective admission programs

• Working knowledge of higher education policies, practices, and procedures Experience working in a union environment administering contracts Experience securing other sources of funding

• Evidence of data-informed decision making and effective strategies to increase enrollment and retention

• Experience building and supporting programs across multiple sites

• Proven success in strategic planning, assessment, and change initiatives

Job Description -
The primary purpose of the Dean of Business and Industry is to lead the successful development, expansion, revision, improvement and maintenance of high-quality academic programs, supporting the best interests of South Central College students.

The Dean of Business and Industry promotes academic achievement and learning consistent with established educational objectives, quality standards and fiscal responsibility, accreditation standards, and the college mission, vision, and strategic priorities.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide strategic instructional leadership for the college.

• Cultivate effective teaching and learning in the areas of pedagogy, assessment of student learning, faculty development, curriculum development, instructional technology, instructional design, and online learning.

• Identify and support suitable internship and supervised occupational learning sites.

• Ensure the faculty and staff follow assessment policies and procedures, required training, and professional development plans and evaluations.

• Supervise program and regional accreditation activities, serving as a liaison with accrediting agencies, and preparing reports, and overseeing site visits as needed. Cultivate relationships with business and industry focusing on the college’s mission of student success and regional economic development.

• Oversee program Advisory Committee and program curriculum planning meetings.

• Analyzes systems, policies and practices and commits to continuous program improvement through the strategic use of culturally responsive data.

• Keep abreast of national, statewide, and programmatic trends, issues, legislation, and political action impacting program accreditation and operations.

• Develop, recommend, and implement Minnesota State and SCC policies and procedures for academic affairs.

2. Provide strategic leadership for the college’s Business and Industry program offerings

• Lead curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, and revision which is responsive to practice, student needs, and meets accreditation standards. Review enrollment patterns, cost/benefit information, employment statistics and other data to identify class schedule opportunities, issues, program development, and needed changes.

• Coordinate selective admission of students in accordance with program guidelines and accreditation standards.

• Implement a student-centered strategic course schedule, that is responsive to student’s needs, is fiscally-disciplined, and aligned to the faculty contract. Manage faculty instructional loads office hours, and schedules.

• Support the college’s online programs, adult basic education, and K-12 partnerships. Support the development of PSEO and Concurrent Enrollment partnerships with area school districts. Develop, maintain, and promote articulation/transfer agreements with four-year colleges/universities.

• Facilitate marketing and promotion of programs and course offerings.

• Maintain accessibility and an open-door policy with students and staff on academic issues/concerns.
• Take appropriate action to resolve issues of concern. Address student complaints and oversee student appeal process.

• Conduct evaluations of faculty and program review of all programs.

• Identify staffing needs and recommend staffing plans.

• Supervise and coach employees on their job responsibilities and promote and encourage leadership opportunities at the college.

• Address employee concerns according to the requirements of the appropriate contract or other formal agency procedure.

• Perform all supervisory tasks in accordance with Minnesota State and South Central College policy and procedure, labor agreements and employee safety policies and procedures.

• Observe, evaluate and review faculty and staff performance for purposes of making recommendations in the areas of development, promotion and retention.

3. Faculty/Staff Leadership/Management

• Foster strong working relationships and open lines of communication encompassing both college campuses. Provide leadership and support across departments to ensure all are working towards college goals.

• Work collaboratively with the college administration, faculty and staff to implement South Central College and Minnesota State goals in support of student success.

• Evaluate faculty and staff and develop benchmarks, goals and objectives from which to measure progress and success.

4. General Administrative Duties

• Participate in college planning and budgeting processes.

• Identify, communicate and monitor capital and instructional expenditures. Develop, implement, and manage grant-funded programming in collaboration with the Office of Strategic Partnerships.

• Partner to solve problems, adapt communication and approaches, and support healthy disagreements, that advance institutional goals.

• Interact with the community to foster understanding and to solicit support for overall college objectives.

• Maintain knowledge of Minnesota State and SCC policy assuring compliance within realm of responsibility.

• Manage program budgets, review and revise budgets, contain costs and authorize department purchases.

• Maximize use and safety of instructional facilities. Apply strategies which improve facility utilization in instructional spaces. Ensure instructional lab facilities meet compliance standards and reflect best practices.

• Provide leadership through representation on college committees.

• Collaborate with the VPAA in the identification and selection of new programs to meet market needs.

• Work collaboratively with other college deans to provide appropriate courses in support of college programs.
