Job Description
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Operates a variety of road construction and maintenance equipment such as, but not limited to, front-end loaders,
bulldozers, road sanders, snowplows, backhoes, and rollers;
Performs skilled operations in the repair of motor equipment including but not limited to installing new clutches,
repairing electrical wiring, and repairing brakes;
Performs preventative maintenance on motor equipment;
May perform a variety of manual tasks such as cutting trees, road patching, bridge scraping and painting, and
snow shoveling when not operating or repairing equipment;
Performs manual tasks related to motor equipment operation such as pumping gas or loading and unloading the
vehicle;
Greases vehicles and changes oil and oil filters;
Attaches and removes snowplow blades and other auxiliary equipment;
Transports heavy equipment to construction jobs;
If employed at the Plattsburgh International Airport, assists and is a member of the Airport Crash-Fire Rescue
Team and operates a variety of crash/fire/rescue equipment in response to aircraft emergencies.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the operation of a variety of public works and construction equipment;
Good knowledge of motor equipment repair methods and the terminology and tools of the trade;
Good knowledge of county geography;
Ability to make skilled repairs to a variety of motor equipment;
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
Mechanical aptitude;
Willingness to respond to emergencies and work under adverse weather conditions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of experience in the operation of road building, maintenance,
and/or construction equipment and one (1) year of experience in performing motor equipment repair and
maintenance.
