Position Summary

Join STERIS' global Information Technology team as it provides world class services and support to this growing, market leading company. The Microsoft SQL Server, Database Administrator will be responsible for providing production database operations, ensuring performance and scalability, high availability and disaster recovery, compliance and security of database servers.

You will execute best practices and procedures for deploying MS SQL Server databases, day-to-day operational activities including break/fix, space management, backup and restore, performance monitoring and tuning. You will also recommend physical database design, architecture, and testing of database technologies. identify data sources, construct decomposition diagrams, provide data flow diagrams and document processes. This role is very focused on MS SQL Server database projects beyond the day to day operation, therefore,

**This position is located onsite in Mentor, Ohio with the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule. Qualified candidates must relocate or be located within driving distance of Mentor, Ohio.

Duties

* Provides tier 1 support and maintenance of MS SQL Server databases to meet daily operational needs.
* Analyzes user requirements & statistics and participate in MS SQL Server database design & performance evaluation reviews.
* Supports availability and data protection of managed database systems.
* Implements and configures backup methodologies for any managed database system component potentially restorable from backup per STERIS backup standards.
* Applies a cybersecurity mindset and best practices to secure Database servers. Hardens database servers based upon security hardening requirements. Assists with security audits from internal and external providers.
* Identifies and resolves capacity issues. Regularly monitors/reviews performance metrics and works with leadership to get the work prioritized.
* Monitors daily backup job logs or reports to identify any failures or issues impacting capability to restore any managed database component or associated data.
* Executes the recovery or re-installation of all database system components in order to meet or exceed the recovery time (RTO) or recovery point (RPO) objectives per disaster recovery requirements
* Implements and configures data replication schemes for managed systems to ensure data redundancy, alternate site processing capability, and system/data recoverability are continuously operational
* Installs or applies the database portion of any application upgrades or new releases, software version upgrades, or other system changes.
* Performs tuning services to optimize the performance of the database individually or to the database as integrated to its master application
* Manages databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission critical production systems.
* Provides 24x7 support for critical production systems. Participates in an On-Call rotation as needed
* Performs scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
* Installs, configures, patches, and upgrades database servers. Manages on-prem and cloud based (Azure-preferred) database servers and services in PaaS and IaaS cloud solutions.
* Performs performance monitoring and troubleshooting. Has experience using database-specific monitoring technologies.

Required Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related technical degree along with 4 years of professional MS Sequel database administration experience.
* In lieu of degree, 12 years of professional MS Sequel database administration experience.
* Technical, hands on knowledge in database operations, design and implementation and basic database administration skills/experience (procedures for change control, test and production release).
* Experience managing a set of tasks in support of broader project efforts.
* Proven understanding of entire development process, including specification, documentation, and quality assurance. An awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans is valuable
* Experience with Performance Tuning using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
* Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
* Knowledge of High Availability and Disaster Recovery options for database technologies.
* Experience migrating on-prem environments to public cloud (Azure-preferred)
* Proven analytical and design skills.
