Job Description
This role provides end-user support to the school’s communications spaces of television/audio studios, computer labs, research and collaborative spaces, and supports users working on a variety of computing platforms including Windows and Mac based systems.
  • Provide technical support for Windows and Apple technologies used in the complex, including but not limited to the Desktops, Portables, iOS and tvOS devices.
  • Co-administer the Newhouse Schools server infrastructure and support the Microsoft Active Directory (SaaS system management, account management, server maintenance and upgrades, software and security patching, maintain and expand the school’s asset management systems.
  • Maintain and update software on a regular basis: deployment, patches and triage.
  • Coordinate and manage technology projects and initiatives undertaken by the department and the school.
  • Develop, coordinate and offer training to faculty, staff and student’s in the use of hardware and software as needed.
  • Participate in professional development programs.
  • Recommend/develop user documentation for technologies within the facility.
Qualifications
  • Proficient knowledge of the Windows and MacOS operating system’s and associated software and peripheral support is required.
  • Experience with AD and SaaS platform administration is required.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 365
  • Proficiency with database management required.
Job Specific Qualifications
  • Networking knowledge is preferable.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure technologies (e.g. storage systems, network, and data center).
  • Strong understanding of enterprise security standards and practices.
  • Working knowledge of video production software preferred (Final Cut, Premiere’).
  • Experience with vendor-managed solutions and third-party team resources.
  • AD experience is required; some system infrastructure & architecture experience is preferred. Knowledge of JAMF management systems is preferable.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining the school’s various server environments including the schools SaaS platforms. This includes on premise and virtual servers that host specialized software that is critical to the School’s ability to deliver its curriculum on a daily basis, administrative resources, content management and asset management systems. Perform routine systems checks to assure system integrity and ensure system back-ups are working regularly. Conduct preventative maintenance to assure the integrity of the servers and that required “up time” is maintained in an uninterrupted fashion.
  • Provide support and maintenance for the School’s core computing platforms (including Windows, Macintosh, iOS, tvOS, etc.). This includes daily oversight of equipment supporting the school’s curriculum, faculty, staff, and students. Handling problems that arise on a daily basis through the schools online Help Desk to assure equipment, hardware, software is supporting the School’s mission. Conduct regular preventative maintenance audits to be sure equipment is functioning optimally. Responsible for performing repairs and other fixes in a time sensitive manner and interface with any required customer service support.
  • Oversee projects and new initiatives required of the School’s IT Team. Primary responsibility for projects assigned by Director of IT, as well as participation as a team member in projects assigned to other team members. These projects may include specifying new equipment for upgrading computer labs and classrooms, overseeing the installation of new equipment, researching solutions to needs that are not met by current IT infrastructure, etc. Will also be assigned responsibility for researching solutions required to meet new initiatives adopted by the Dean, School’s academic departments, faculty, administrative offices, etc. This may include finding an array of technology solutions to achieve desired outcomes in curriculum development, research support, advising best practices, fundraising solutions, etc.
  • Provide technology training as required to ensure personnel can operate existing and new technologies as needed. This may include regularly scheduled software training, orientation training for new employees, training for student employees, etc. Serve as a mentor to other IT team members as well as student employees employed throughout the School’s computer labs, studios, and equipment distribution counter. Identify and or establish professional development offerings to advance the School’s knowledge base as it relates to technologies in the organization.
  • Complete other duties that arise and are often not part of the anticipated work load, including emergencies and/or new responsibilities that may be assigned on an ad-hoc or continuing basis.
