Job Description
Managerial and strategic role in the Rights Department – devising and implementing sales strategy to meet and exceed sales budgets with specific sales responsibilities for key international markets for our HarperCollins Children's Books and Farshore imprints.
Key tasks and accountabilities
Sell translation rights across Farshore and HarperCollins Children’s Books lists to key foreign markets
Key market responsibilities (subject to change): France, Scandinavia, China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea
Work with Rights team to establish and coordinate profitable co-edition print runs
Brand Champion of Fiction, to lead on summarising Rights feedback and P&L contributions.
Act as conduit between Rights and Farshore and HCCB divisions on all ensuing titles of interest, whether gathering rights intel or building P&Ls.
Contribute to department strategy and fulfilment of budgetary targets
Liaising strategically with sister companies to ensure best placement of our titles in translation
Provide sales updates on all territories on a regular basis
Attend Frankfurt, Bologna and London book fairs as well as additional sales trips to key territories
Represent the Rights team at various divisional meetings and pitches.
Contribute to the acquisition process ensuring international sales potential within the publishing programme
Provide projected international sales figures for each territory on acquisition of new projects.
Undertake admin duties including logging interest, submitting sales material, reviewing and / or drawing up contracts, notifying authors and agents of sales, completing approvals, adding to sales spreadsheets and databases, issuing FPOs, arranging shipping instructions, supplying material.
Effective people management within the team.
Achievement of Farshore and HCCB Rights co-edition and rights income budgets and stretch targets within recommended levels of profitability.
High level of representation of both divisions in foreign territories
Co-ordinated and profitable print runs for home and international markets.
Maximum divisional awareness of function of Rights, market trends and Rights sales potential on all acquisitions
Growth of customer base
Smooth running for Rights systems and databases
Skills and experience required:
Substantial experience of working in a publishing house in rights, contracts or production
Experience of staff management
Ability to communicate at all levels, both in writing and verbally
Comfortable using Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Impeccable organisational skills.
Meticulous attention to detail
Awareness of the print production process
Keen Negotiation skills
