ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Receives and processes patient requests (i.e. prescription refills, supplies, equipment, urgent care appointments, etc.) in a timely manner.
- Documents encounters according to nursing standards of practice and policy.
- Reviews, places orders (i.e.: prescription refills, supplies, equipment, imaging, lab, etc.) electronically and by telephone.
- Prepares and ensures proper set up of examination rooms, equipment, supplies, applicable consent forms and related details associated with the reason for patient encounter.
- Receives calls that require nursing assessment, talks directly to patients on the telephone and accordingly instructs them on their next course of action.
- Confirms the reason for the office visit (chief complaint), and prepares the patient/caregiver for examination.
- Obtains and documents vital signs, health, and social histories as indicated or requested.
- Performs and documents office procedures, back office laboratory and diagnostic tests according to CLIA and current standards.
- Provides routine nursing support as directed by physicians and approved as standard practices (e.g., office surgical procedures, casting, trauma care, etc.).
- Educates patients to ensure comprehension of physician orders (e.g., prescriptions) and interpretation of treatment.
- Assists faculty physicians to ensure a meaningful educational experience relative to the academic mission for residents and medical students.
- Ensures delivery of excellent customer service.
- Assist with quality improvement projects as requested.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Education: Registered nursing degree.
- Licensure: Must be currently licensed by the Michigan State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
- Valid CPR certification is required. Accepted certifications include American Red Cross: BLS for Healthcare Professionals or American Heart Association BLS. Certificates must remain current.
- Aptitude: Understanding and appreciation of the medical education/academic process with an intrinsic desire to support said process through direct educational involvement and support.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that encourage harmonious working relationships with individuals in the health and educational settings.
PREFERED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
- Education: BSN preferred.
- Experience: OB/GYN care experience preferred
- Supervisor/Management experience preferred
- Willingness to serve as a team leader.
