Job Title: Facilities Maintenance Technician/Grounds
Programs: Building Care and Maintenance
Reports to: Director of Plant Operations

SUMMARY STATEMENT
The Facilities Maintenance Technician (FMT) is responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, painting, H.V.A.C electrical work, plumbing, etc.). The FMT will also perform general cleaning and other tasks as assigned. Change filters on heating and cooling equipment check and lubricate pumps and motors clean equipment as needed. Maintaining doors and locks interior and exterior.
No ladder work or heavy lifting over 40 pounds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- To inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and to detect
malfunctions and needed repair.
- To help with grounds care running mowers and other equipment as needed for snow removal.
- To perform minor electrical maintenance, including but not limited to replacing or repairing
fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast,
sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
- To perform minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacing or repairing leaky drains and faucets,
unclogging drains.
- To perform minor carpentry and masonry work.
- To reconfigure, install, position, and remount modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall
panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and
maximize office space using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks.
- To prepare surfaces and paint various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, refrigerators,
evaporative coolers, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to maintain a safe, comfortable working environment and to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion. To apply paints, stains and varnishes using various painting equipment and related tools including sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.
- To provide backup support, if needed to clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms,
corridors, elevators, stairways, parking lots, and other work areas.
- To assist with maintaining snow removal equipment.
- To order parts and retrieve them as needed.
- To perform other duties as assigned.
- To work on heating and cooling systems with an emphasis on preventive maintenance.
