About the College
The Carl H. Lindner III Center for Insurance & Risk Management ("LCIRM" henceforth) is an industry-leading research center that seeks to understand, analyze and improve how economies, enterprises and individuals manage risk. By engaging faculty and students throughout the University of Cincinnati and (inter)nationally recognized scholars in insurance and risk management research and collaboration, as well as cultivating industry partnerships, the Center is the premier provider of thought leadership through high-impact risk research and exchange of knowledge between academia and industry. Job Overview
Under general supervision of the Academic Director, the Assistant Director with assist with the administration and direction of the Carl H. Lindner III Center for Insurance & Risk Management ("LCIRM" henceforth).Our Insurance and Risk Management Program at LCIRM is designed to equip students for productive careers focused on managing risks within corporations, within the insurance or financial services industry,or as a supplier of risk management products and services. This position will have the option of a hybrid work schedule (3 days in the office/2 days work from home) for those with a residence within OH/IN/KY following 90 days of training. Residence must be in the tri-state area within reasonable distance to UC Main Campus to have ability to report to campus as required. Remote work arrangements are subject to change in accordance with university policies.
Essential Functions
Assist with development, implementation, and administration of center and departmental goals to achieve strategic objectives of LCIRM; assume management responsibility for a wide range of projects and tasks associated with primary business operations and/or corporate relations that have significant impact within the business function.
Develop internal policies, procedures, controls, and manage processes to increase internal business and/or external corporate partnerships of the LCIRM and advance service levels; responsible for policy execution and results that enrich the department/center, the campus and the university; consults with Academic Director on major policy changes affecting other departments.
May be responsible for coordinating a function or program(s) with significant impact on external relations.
Offer support with LCIRM's collaborating efforts with administrative and academic units (i.e., Public Relations, Academic Colleges, UC Foundation, etc.) to enhance business/community partnerships; support the UC Foundation staff regarding fundraising for INTB4030 IRM Global Destinations (a new travel course within the IRM program); support Lindner Career Services with organizing the IRM Career Fair (twice annually).
Assist with preparation of annual Center reports, operating budgets and budget recommendations; develop, implement and monitor assigned budgets; ensuring LCIRM follows all University and College financial, payment, and procurement policies and procedures when incurring expenses, including the submission of required documentation for financial transactions (i.e., requisitions (PO's), invoices, contracts, reimbursements, and p-card reconciliations) for purchases, scholarships, and payroll.
Prepare reports for the Academic Director, disseminate/interpret information, provide advice, write proposals, deliver presentations, construct contractual agreements, and ensure that all programs and services comply with university, state, and federal regulations.
Assist with guest speaker administration and reimbursement; assist with conference/event organization and student scholarship administration.
Be responsible for several CRM tasks and keeping accurate records; be responsible for administering alumni relations and implementing a one-to-one mentorship program for IRM students.
Essential Functions (cont'd)
Assist in promoting the Insurance & Risk Management Program and LCIRM using diverse marketing channels, assist with social media presence, and support/administer sponsorship activities to increase impact.
Communicate with and assist students and corporate partners to resolve questions and complex issues; represent the LCIRM and the university internally and externally.
May be responsible for administrative leadership and supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff; hire, orient, train, mentor and evaluate assigned staff; monitor and coordinate staff development and training programs.
Work closely with our program's student fraternity, Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS), to assist with event preparation and administration of GIS student conference trips; support with budget management and help prepare weekly GIS meetings involving speakers from the industry.
Work closely with the Academic Director and the Mathematics Department to fulfill reporting requirements to attain and keep status as "Center of Actuarial Excellence".
Assist the Academic Director in writing reports and putting together presentations to the LCIRM Advisory Board; engage with the Board on a continuous basis and coordinate and schedule one-to-one meetings for the Director with different Board members.
Serve on various university, division and departmental committees and represent the LCIRM/department at various state and national associations; represent LCIRM and potentially take over for the Academic Director at industry events if the Academic Director is unavailable.
Perform related duties based on departmental needs.
Required Education
Bachelor's Degree
Seven (7) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement
